Today is World AIDS Day. With that in mind it seems appropriate that we take time to reflect on and talk about SEX.
Sex is one of those things that people are doing but not doing a whole lot of talking about… The break down in communication and openness about sex is the primary cause of teen pregnancies, std’s, and the spread of HIV/AIDS.
We really need to talk about it openly and honestly. With so many available options today for protection its an absolute must that everyone is on the same page and taking steps to protect themselves and others.
There are those that believe that sex is only to be enjoyed and had by people who are married. The reality is sex outside of marriage is the reality and has been from the beginning. So as long as people are having sex there has to be some discussion about safe sex!
“Despite the fact that STDs are extremely widespread and add an estimated $14.7 billion to the nation’s healthcare costs each year, most people in the United States remain unaware of the risk and consequences of all but the most prominent STD—HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.” ~CDC
“CDC estimates that more than one million people are living with HIV in the United States. One in five (21%) of those people living with HIV is unaware of their infection.”
“Nearly two-thirds of births to women younger than age 18 and more than half of those among 18−19 year olds are unintended.” ~CDC
Use Condoms, they come in all different sizes, flavors, and textures. There are condoms for men and women. Make sure you know how to properly use a condom, it may seem like a common sense thing but if you don’t know what you’re doing it can break or come off at the most inopportune time… Dental dams are another source of (oral) protection. The video playlist below includes songs promoting safe sex as well as instructional videos for practicing safe sex. Enjoy!
BE SAFE!
