When we started our U Grow Girl! group we had no idea that our efforts would be acknowledged or even recognized by any media outlets. Our focus was simply empowering each other and growing. We are definitely growing in more ways than one!
This morning I stepped out into the sunshine and picked up my Compton Bulletin from my lawn… Guess who and what was featured at the top of page 4A……U Grow Girl! with a picture of our wonderful Coach Ace (the creator and founder of UGG!). Please go out and get a copy of this weeks Compton Bulletin. Here’s the clip, click on it to make it bigger!

This past September marked 1 year since starting our U Grow Girl! group in Compton. We celebrated in style and met with the ladies of U Grow Girl! from San Pedro, Inglewood, and Los Angeles for tea. We had a wonderful time and our Tea was actually featured in the Inglewood Today newspaper!
Here’s a photo montage of our Tea!
Together we have grown so much in just a years time. With each meeting we are all inspired to do more to reach our maximum potential.
In our meeting last week we discussed and acknowledged our growth in our individual areas of opportunity. We identified situations that stretched us out of our comfort zones and marked significant changes we’ve made to live our lives more abundantly.
We have one more meeting left for 2008 and I’m certain it will be a powerful one that will no doubt catapult us into even more welcomed growth in 2009. I see a Spa Day and weekend retreat in our future Our focus for our next meeting is:
The Law of Opportunity:
Your greatest possibilities will often come from the most common situations around you. Your biggest opportunity probably lies under your own feet…” —Brian Tracy
POOR= Passing On Opportunities Repeatedly
“Your Future Depends On…”
Who you will be in the next 5 years depends on 3 things: the books you read. the people you meet. The choices you make. —15min Money Manager

7 is often referred to as a lucky number. Some say it’s the number of perfection and/or the number of completion. I’m inclined to believe all three and then some. I’ll do my best to put into words the power of 7 women coming together in our monthly U Grow Girl! Circle of Thought meetings.
We have been going strong since September 2007. Together we have set goals, achieved goals, celebrated successes, explored areas of opportunity, and identified personal strengths and weaknesses.
Our U Grow Girl meetings are a much needed outlet where we comfortably and openly express our feelings, thoughts, ideas, and struggles without judgment, guilt, shame, envy, gossiping or any other pettiness often associated with women coming together.
New comers to our group can feel the Love. There is always a very strong warm welcoming feeling in all of our meetings. The women of U Grow Girl exude: Love, Faith, Hope, Kindness, Patience, Diligence, and Humility.
Our diversity challenges us to see beyond our individual perceptions and paradigms, which enables us to see the bigger clearer picture in the grand scheme of things. With each meeting we learn more about ourselves, others, and life in general.
Over the past 9 months I’ve come to realize that having the support, encouragement, knowledge, wisdom, and feedback from women of differing backgrounds and generations actually provides perspective that lightens the path to ultimate personal development and growth. Our discussions always lead to (often times unintended) insights that each of us are able to immediately apply to our every day lives.
In our last meetings we discussed the danger of anger, the importance of forgiveness, setting priorities, persevering through difficult times, and effective communication in relationships. For the month of June we decided not to hold our regular meeting but to help one of our members move. We don’t just talk the talk, we walk the walk, and together our efforts = U Grow Girl!
It’s been awhile since I’ve given a progress report on what’s happening with U Grow Girl. We are still going and growing strong! Our first meeting started with four and now we are 7.
Meeting #4 was in December and was very different from our regular meetings. We convened with a spread fit for queens. We gained a new member and received her into our circle with open arms.
We spent a great deal of time talking about miracles, blessings, and answered prayers that we all were experiencing and witnessing in our lives. By the meetings end, I’m certain we all had a much deeper and greater understanding of how nothing is impossible to those that believe. Our hearts were encouraged.
January marked our 5th U Grow Girl meeting. We gained a new member whom we embraced and welcomed into our circle.
We decided with the New Year, we would revisit our goals, create new goal boards, and share them at our next meeting. We discussed and prayed for healing, health, and wellness. We shared our thoughts on wives ‘submitting’ to their husbands. We talked about the importance of having our group and maintaining relationships with women in general. This really touched me as I looked around the room in amazement…I had a friend from when I was six years old and a friend from 5th grade right there! After all of these years we’re still growing together. This meeting was so intense none of us were ready for it to end. We are all looking forward to our next meeting on Feb 24th. As Coach Ace says, “those who show up, go up!”
I love our U Grow Girl meetings and I’m so thankful to be in such awesome company.
This month we gained a new member, we are now 5 strong!
We each gave a progress report on our goals, recapped our 1st two meetings, and welcomed and embraced our new member.
We learned about a contest which provides women interested in starting a business with $50,000 in seed money and encouraged each other to participate.
Our growth in our U Grow Girl! Circle of Thought involves changing our thinking to change our lives and life long learning.
Some of our goals include enhancing our finances. So we are proactively changing our thoughts and attitudes about finances and increasing our knowledge and understanding as it relates to financial matters.
We talked about financial empowerment and concepts from Robert Kiyoski’s books. We explored the definitions of:
Asset
Budget
Business Owner
Cash Flow
Consumerism
Earned income
Employee
We also discussed the importance of avoiding cynicism and learning to find the good not just in every situation but in others as well.
In our discussion we also explored:
ASK and it shall be given.
SEEK and you shall find.
KNOCK and the door will be opened.
Our next meeting is December 2nd. Our plan is to continue our discussion about financial empowerment and explore the importance of Sisters and maintaining relationships with girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters, daughters-in-law, sisters, sisters-in-law, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, nieces, cousins, and extended family.
With each meeting we grow and after each meeting we are all always looking forward to the next. It is a blessing to be in the company of such amazing women. Team work truly makes the dream work!
On October 7th we had another amazing U Grow Girl! Circle of thought. At our first meeting we discussed the importance of women rising above divisive old notions and behaviors (jealousy, gossip, hurting one another, believing that we get along better with men…etc).
We committed to support one another as a team, Together Everyone Achieves More. We also talked at length about setting and achieving goals. We each left the first meeting with a poster board and our first U Grow Girl mission.
Our mission was to use the Goal Setting Goal Getting Guide to write out our goals on one side of the poster board and to cut out pictures to create visual pictures of our goals on the other side of the board, and then bring our finished poster boards back to our next meeting.
We completed our first mission.
At our second meeting we shared our goals with each other, shared ideas, and ways we could help each other achieve our goals.
We also spent time talking about staying encouraged during difficult times and overcoming adversity. We discussed the difference between positive thinking and productive thinking and how our goals will only be met with action(s) on our part.
Another interesting conversation in our meeting was about perception and paradigms. We analyzed two images and discovered that upon first glance we didn’t all perceive or see the same thing… we immediately noticed that we all see things from our own perspectives but it doesn’t always mean that our perspective is right or accurate… I think that this is yet another shining example of how 4 heads are better than 1, 8 eyes are better than 2, and how
Since November 2006 I have had this vision of bringing a group of like minded women together of diverse ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds, for what I’ve been calling “A Meeting of the Minds.” Every time I tried to organize and set a date things just didn’t come together.
In May, I had an opportunity to discuss my vision with a very close family friend. Not only was she on the exact same page… She told me about a program she has called U Grow Girl! which focuses on cultivating empowerment.
Immediately the wheels started turning. (My friend Susan says I have a hamster running a mile a minute in my head lol…she’s right).
Anyway, to make a long story short it took from May to August to finally have a U Grow Girl Circle of Thought. Not everyone was able to show up but I couldn’t bring myself to postpone again, besides we are meeting again October 7th.
We had a very powerful and inspiring meeting. We discussed women’s issues, team work, unity, networking, the power of spoken words, and goal setting.
The power and energy we all felt is inexplicable. I know you might be looking at this picture wondering how and what kind of power we were able to achieve with 4 people, but if you’re familiar with “where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst“….you know….
