Need a video? Hire me! www.matthewbelinkie.com TRANSCRIPT Shame on you. This could be the greatest night of our lives, but youre going to let it be the worst. And I guarantee a week wont go by in your life you wont regret walking out, letting them get the best of you. Well, Im not going home. Weve come too far! And Im going to stay right here and fight for this lost cause. A day may come when the courage of men fails… but it is not THIS day. The line must be drawn HERE. This far, no further! Im not saying its going to be easy. Youre going to work harder than you ever worked before. But thats fine, well just get tougher with it! If a person grits his teeth and shows real determination, failure is not an option. Thats how winning is done! Believe me when I say we can break this army here, and win just one for the Gipper. But I say to you what every warrior has known since the beginning of time: youve got to get mad. I mean plum mad dog mean. If you would be free men, then you must fight to fulfill that promise! Let us cut out their living guts one inch at a time, and they will know what we can do! Let no man forget how menacing we are. We are lions! Youre like a big bear, man! This is YOUR time! Seize the day, never surrender, victory or death… thats the Chicago Way! Whos with me? Clap! Clap! Dont let Tink die! Clap! Alright! Lets fly! And gentlemen in England now abed shall know my name is the Lord when I tell our enemies that they may take our lives <b>…<b>

After spending the last 3 years evaluating the Natural Healing College and multiple other degree online programs and here are my opinions.

In this distant education over-view, I’m going to review three online colleges that provide holistic courses and what you should take a close look at when thinking about a naturopathic college. The natural health schools are:

Clayton College of Natural Health

Global College of Natural Medicine or GCNM

The Natural Healing College

Clayton College ” Is a Natural Health School that offers a range of holistic courses, but they live in the stone age, and still require you to mail in your tests, which can be very frustrating, and quite time consuming because you will have to waste time waiting for them to mail your tests results back….Their Online Programs will also cost you an arm and a leg. They also do not help you land a job and have ZEO holistic internship program

Global College of Holistic Medicine ” They dont offer Bad Science because they do offer a narrow range of holistic courses, but, they too require you to mail in your tests, which can be painful and take a lot of time. Because youll be forced to wait for them to mail your Natural Healing tests results back….Their Herbal courses are quite pricy. The Global College of Natural Medicine will NOT help you get a job after graduation and have do not have an internship program

The Natural Healing College – Offer a very profound range of holistic courses, but they DO NOT force you to mail in your tests. Your tests results are instant which means you can finish your online degree faster!

Another Great thing about the Natural Healing College is that their Masters Degree program is a Fraction the price of the other schools such as Clayton College of health medicine …We should also mention that, their School Of Naturopathy is probably the best on the planet and they will also help with Internships and getting you a job.

After your Graduation from the Natural Healing College they will help you establish a valuable Internship and will assist you in obtaining employment, or Careers Natural Medicine.

In my opinion and 100s of hours of researchYour number one choice for online universities is the Natural Healing College. Not Clayton State University. They seem to be still in the stone age with technology.

Clayton College of Natural Health

Global College of Natural Medicine or GCNM

The Natural Healing College

Clayton College ” is a Naturopathic College and offer a range of Aromatherapy Courses, but from my understanding they require you to mail in your tests, which can be quite time consuming because you will have to wait for them to mail your tests results back….Their Degrees In Holistic Nutrition are also quite expensive… Onc e you graduate youre on your own. They also do not help you get employment and have ZEO naturopathy internship program

Global College of Holistic Medicine – They offer a medium range of holistic courses, but from my understanding, they require you to mail in your tests, which can be quite time consuming because you will have to wait for them to mail your tests results back….Also the so called Bachelors Degrees tuition will cost you a lot of money…. GCNM will NOT help you get a job after you graduate and do not offer an internship program

The Natural Healing College – Offer a very profound range of holistic courses, but they DO NOT force you to mail in your tests. Your tests results are instant which means you can finish your online degree faster!

The Natural Healing College courses are also about 1/2 the price of Clayton State University & the other distant education schools…in addition, their courses are probably the best on the planet and they give you everything you need to get started… they are also working with the Council for Higher Education Accreditation

After your Graduation from the Natural Healing College they will help you establish a valuable Internship and will assist you in landing you employment or establishing your own practice in Traditional Naturopath

In my humble opinion and hundreds of hours of researchYour best choice for an Online Holistic School is the Natural Healing College. Not the Clayton College and State University. Maybe someday they will get up to speed with technology.

As if it its not bad enough that art programs in schools are cut left and right, now a school specializing in the arts faces possible closure! When is enough really enough? When and where do we draw the line?

“The Arts” are just as important as subjects such as History, Math, Science, and English.  According to “Living the Arts through Language + Learning: A Report on Community-based Youth Organizations,” Shirley Brice Heath:

Young people who participate in the arts for at least three hours on three days each week through at least one full year are:
» 4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement
» 3 times more likely to be elected to class office within their schools
» 4 times more likely to participate in a math and science fair
» 3 times more likely to win an award for school attendance
» 4 times more likely to win an award for writing an essay or poem

Young artists, as compared with their peers, are likely to:
» Attend music, art, and dance classes nearly three times as frequently
» Participate in youth groups nearly four times as frequently
» Read for pleasure nearly twice as often
» Perform community service more than four times as often

As a product of the Los Angeles Unified School District, I participated in the Arts in elementary, junior high, and high school.  I played an instrument, participated in dance, and theater.  I wasn’t an A student but I did well above average.  I was an elected student body officer in elementary, junior high, and high school.  I participated in a Science fair (once).  My attendance was close to perfect.  I never entered any essay competitions but I’m sure If I had, I would’ve done ok.  I took music and dance classes after school.  I was in and started a few of my own youth groups.  I read for pleasure then and now.  I served my community then and now.  I say all of this to point out that I find Shirley Brice Heath’s research to be on point.  I’m not an exception, majority of my friends can give similar (if not the same) account of their school years.

“The Arts” allow kids to express themselves and explore their creativity.  In many cases, Art is a productive way to escape and/or rise above negative environmental factors.  Art makes learning fun.  There are numerous reasons we should all fight to keep Art education in our schools.  What really hits home the most for me is:

“Art education has a measurable impact on at-risk youth in deterring delinquent behavior and truancy problems while also increasing overall academic performance among those youth engaged in afterschool and summer arts programs targeted toward delinquency prevention.” —YouthARTS Development Project, 1996, U.S. Department of Justice, National Endowment for the Arts, and Americans for the Arts

Today I received an email from my friend Joyce regarding Los Angeles Academy for the Arts & Enterprise (also known as LAAAE), a public charter school in downtown L.A.

  1. The LAAAE student body is 91% Latino, 6% African American, 3% Asian. 90% from low-income families.
  2. LAAAE offers college-prep curriculum that focuses on arts, enterprise, and the business of the arts.
  3. LAAAE has increased API scores by 12% in two years.
  4. LAAAE offers 50% more instructional minutes that allow all students to have visual arts, music, and business classes in addition to the core subjects.
  5. LAAAE created a 501(c)3 non profit and raised $1.3MM in grants and donations in the past three years to support its enriched education.

Yet LAUSD wants to close LAAAE! Why? I have no idea. Perhaps its part of the massive layoff plan and cramming 40 kids to a class strategy. We should not allow ANY cuts to education! We need our schools. We need our teachers. We all need to step up.

Stop Teacher Layoffs & Increased Class Sizes
PACK THE BOARD
On Tuesday, March 31, the Los Angeles School Board postponed a vote on employee layoffs until the School Board meeting on April 14th.

The District plans to spread the federal stimulus money over the next two years rather than using it all up front…NOW… when it would save thousands of jobs, as Congress and the President intended.

On April 14 at the board meeting demand that LAUSD use all the federal stimulus money NOW, before ANY layoffs are implemented.

2008 is a year of change and greatness on so many levels. Thank God I have been freed from years of student loan bondage. I think the most frustrating thing about those student loans was the fact that I didn’t even finish college. That’s right folks, I do not have a conventional college degree but I have a PhD from the School of Hard Knocks! :) My friends and family will tell you that going back to school has been a major priority since having to leave school. Life has thrown many curve balls, twists, turns, and unexpected blows that made going back to school seem impossible. Now at 33 I’m ready to finish what I started back in 1993!

It’s never to late to go back to school. If 95 year old Nola Ochs can do it, so can I. So can you!

I was interviewed by one of my favorite bloggers (Vanessa Byers). In the process I learned that she’s an AKA. You’re probably thinking so what’s the big deal…. I have always had love for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Unfortunately, during my time at Hampton University, AKA’s were inactive. Long story short….I am not a member of a sorority but if I had it my way I’d be an AKA. Vanessa reminded me “it’s never too late to get your 20 pearls.” Then today I get an email from my friend (college roommate) that says:

"I am now a member of the
1st sorority for African American women."

KamilahAKAWhen I read that email I was so excited and happy for Kamilah because I know how much this means to her. I know how much of a contribution she will make to the organization and her community. While it may not seem like a big deal to some…this has been many years in the making…YOU GO KAMILAH congratulations! I am inspired and encouraged.

I share this with you today in hopes of inspiring you and encouraging you to stay focused on your goals. We live in world that demands and expects instant gratification and over night success…but everything doesn’t happen that way for everybody. It may take you 15 years to accomplish a goal or realize a dream. No matter what, Never Give Up! You can do anything you set your mind to!

It’s never too late to do anything that your heart desires.

Thanks Nola, Vanessa, and Kamilah for the reminder :)

A+The importance of education cannot be stressed enough.  Rewarding students for getting good grades in school may not be the best way to get students to value education but it certainly doesn’t hurt.  The extra push, extra encouragement, and extra incentive often motivates students  to do better.

Best Buy is offering an incentive for students to get A’s on their report cards. Students have an opportunity to earn up to $50 in Best Buy gift cards. For every A that a student gets, Best Buy will give a $10 gift card.

Why are Best Buy giftcards great incentives?

Kids want cd’s, dvd’s, video games, mp3 players, and electronics! The “It Pays to Get A’s” program gives students an opportunity to earn giftcards to pay for what they want.

In order to participate, students must bring an official copy of their report card and get it stamped by the store manager. This special student incentive is only being offered at the new Best Buy at Gateway Towne Center in Compton and is exclusive to students attending schools in the Compton Unified School District.

If you know a kid in Compton with A’s be sure to tell them about the It Pays to Get A’s program. For more information see the general manager (Marco Orozco) at:
