Today, as we prepare to sit down with our family to eat turkey, ham, dressing, cranberry sauce, collard greens, macaroni n cheese, rolls, sweet potato pie, and the usual…
My appetite is lost.
My heart aches.
I care.
Am I not Human?
My thoughts and prayers are filled with the millions that are hungry.
A reported 26 children died of malnutrition in Haiti last week!
The world is in panic mode due to the financial crisis. Company CEO’s are flying in on private jets begging for bail outs while maintaining lavish lifestyles.
Today I can barely eat wondering why society as we know it seems so inhumane. What happened to am I my brother’s keeper? Why do we care more about corporations than we do about people?
I wish we all lived by the AllState motto: PEOPLE FIRST!
How can we bail out a company that turns around and buys a baseball stadium and turn a blind eye on the 900+ million people in the world suffering from hunger. We have a major food crisis on our hands and with the prices of food soaring we have countries on the brink of civil unrest because of food shortages.
I know some wise ass some where will say something like but Marenda, “we will always have the poor among us.”
While that may be true it is also written:
“All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.‘ “ — Matthew 25:32-40
