This is NUTS: Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act

Perhaps I’m delirious from all of the Theraflu I’ve taken today so forgive me in advance… I’m not happy with what’s going on with breast cancer patients and patients in general…

Its disgusting that we would even have to make sure that women fighting Cancer don’t have to fight with insurance companies… I received an email forward (enclosed below).  It brought me to tears literally!

Why in the world are insurance companies forcing women to go home immediately after having a mastectomy? It seems like an inhumane practice.  Back in the 70′s my grandmother (on my dad’s side) had a mastectomy (she later died from Cancer when I was 1).  They didn’t kick folks out of the hospital back then.  I can’t imagine how she would’ve been able to tend to her family immediately after having her breast removed!  What is a woman to do these days if faced with having to go through such a procedure only to be booted out of the recovery room with a list of instructions.

Back in the day humans ran hospitals.  Humans cared about the overall well being of fellow humans.  When a human went to a hospital that human did not leave until that human was better. Humans were not simply patched up and sent home to recover. Humans meticulously cared for and watched humans around the clock to supervise recovery and take action in the event of complications!

Now everything is so assembly line, robotic, business as usual, get in get out…. Going to a hospital now is almost like taking your car for a tune up.  Everything is so impersonal.  Bed side manner sucks.  People just don’t seem to care any more… or maybe people are forced not to care any more based on all of the restrictions and requirements dictated by the insurance companies. I’m convinced that these companies are run by A.I. (artificial intelligence) how else could they treat human beings the way that they do? Why are we allowing it more importantly.

When and how did we slip into The Matrix? The “Agents” have taken over.  Agent Smith and his cohorts have clearly taken over all things related to health care from insurance to pharmecutical drugs.  The resource that the agents are after is money.  They don’t care how they get it.  Their plan seems to be to get as much money as possible and render the least amount of services possible.

Why the hell are people forced to pay these outrageous bills every month for health insurance and when its time to receive services those same paying customers are told insurance doesn’t cover this or that or they are told they must leave the hospital in x amount of days etc…etc…

You pay for a service every month that you may not even use but a few times a year and its like the insurance company bends over backwards looking for ways to not meet your needs!  Its crazy.

I want to meet the guy that makes up all of these rules.  Who is the guy that says women should be sent home immediately after a mastectomy?  Who is the guy that says Viagra is covered but birth control is not?

Who is making up these rules and why are we not doing something about it?

This is exactly why I hate the whole medical insurance and health care system here in America.  Michael Moore said it best with SICKO.

It seems like its set up to to work against rather than for people.  It seems like the insurance game cares more about money than they do about the health and wellness of people.  It is not a people first system, it is a show me the money system.  Insurance companies should be ashamed of themselves but I suppose they have no shame as they laugh to the bank.  We can send people to outer space, access the internet via phone, clone sheep, and choose the sex of a baby but yet there is no cure for Cancer?  Call me a conspiracy theorists if you like, but if you add up the amount of money spent each year for cancer treatment, cancer prevention, cancer related surgeries…. its a lot of money.  With that stated, I don’t think “they” want to find a cure!

If all of a sudden we had a cure for Cancer who would be out of a lot of money?  What industries would suffer?  There is no money in finding cures for diseases (Dis Ease)There is money in finding ways to live with disease.  Who ever runs these companies is more concerned with profits than they are about people. Whatever it takes to make more money and spend less money even if it means pushing women out of hospitals to soon!

I really want to meet the guy behind all of these rules.  I know its a man (or Agent Smith) because if a man has to have his testicles removed the man stays in the hospital a few days but a woman having a mastectomy is practically shoved out of the door!

Here is the Email Forward that sparked this (thanks for sharing this Shonda)

This one is quite different…it gives you the website for signing the petition!

From a nurse:

I’ll never forget the look in my patients’ eyes when I had to tell them they had to go home with the drains, new exercises and no breast. I remember begging the Doctors to keep these women in the hospital longer, only to hear that they would, but their hands were tied by the insurance companies. So there I sat with my patients, giving them the instructions they needed to take care of themselves, knowing full well they didn’t grasp half of what I was saying, because the glazed, hopeless, frightened look spoke louder than the quiet ‘Thank You’ they muttered. A mastectomy is when a woman’s breast is removed in order to remove cancerous breast cells/tissue. If you know anyone who has had a Mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterwards. Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an outpatient procedure. Let’s give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days after surgery.

It takes 2 seconds to do this and is very important. Please take the time and do it! Please send this to everyone in your address book. If there was ever a time when our voices and choices should be heard, this is one of those times.

If you’re receiving this, it’s because I think you will take the 30 seconds to vote on this issue and send it on to others you know who will do the same. There’s a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It’s about eliminating the ‘drive-through’ Mastectomy where women are forced to go home just a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached.

Lifetime Television has put this bill on their Web page with a petition drive t o show support. Last year over half the House signed on. PLEASE!!

Sign the petition. You need not give more than your name, state, and zip code.

This takes about 2 seconds. PLEASE PASS THIS ON to your friends and family, and on behalf of all women, THANKS

Are You One of 50 million Americans Without Health Insurance?

“Lack of health insurance causes roughly 18,000 unnecessary deaths every year in the United States. Although America leads the world in spending on health care, it is the only wealthy, industrialized nation that does not ensure that all citizens have coverage.”Institute of Medicine

I find it absolutely mind-boggling that America spends the most money on health care yet ranks #37 out of 191 countries. How does a country spend more money than any other country on health care but its citizens have a lower life expectancy than countries that spend less? Where is all the money going?

Instead of Americans being healthier we are seeing increases in:

  • Diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Heart Disease
  • Stroke
  • Obesity
  • Cancer

How is it that citizens in countries with free health care systems (France, Canada, and UK) have longer life expectancy rates than Americans? I told my husband last week we should consider moving to France. He looked at me like I was crazy. But France has the best health care in the world and its free!

I know a middle class family of 5 (husband, wife, & 3 kids) paying $900/month for health insurance! Hello…. $900 for health insurance is alot when you also have to pay mortgage, utilities, car insurance, put gas in the car, food on the table, clothes on backs, plus other living expenses and incidentals! This is why so many Americans do not have health care insurance. Barack Obama is right, “people want health care but can’t afford it.” Hillary Clinton is right, “everybody has got to be covered.” John McCain is right, “we need to reduce health care costs.

We Americans are often quick to turn our noses up at at other countries. We often think we are better and have all of the answers. Perhaps its part of our conditioning or mis-education. We are spoon fed lies that we actually believe about the evils of free health care for every American. Our American wisdom tells us that free health care for all Americans is too much like socialism and socialized health care is the enemy… If so called socialized programs are destructive then how do we explain our current systems for police, fireman, schools, and libraries?

With our infinite wisdom, wealth, and resources our health care system is ranked #37!

As our people grow sicker and deeper in debt with medical bills or die from inadequate medical care; health insurance and health service providers like Humana are literally raking in Six BILLION Dollars! What is wrong with this picture? Read the full story

The Big One down Sicko to go!

The Big OneMichael Moore knocked it out the park with The Big One. This film documents Michael Moore’s book tour and his bold confrontations with companies like Nike, Payday, and Johnson Controls. He effectively addresses corporate downsizing in the midst of record profits and more. If you haven’t seen it— Netflix it, order it, just make sure you see it! I laughed and teared up, this documentary really hit home. In 2004, the company I worked for decided to layoff 400 people and yes I was one of the 400.

I haven’t read the book Downsize This, but its on my to-read list. I am a huge Michael Moore fan! 5 stars 2 thumbs up!
