Doing the same things over and over expecting different results is insanity. The only way to get different results is to change what we do. The process of change begins in our minds. Our thoughts help shape and create our circumstances in life. Living life abundantly is a continuous process of training and transforming our minds to achieve optimal living.

My name is Marenda. I started this blog with the intentions of expressing my thoughts, provoking thought, bridging gaps, and sparking conversation. The agenda is to entertain, educate, and empower. The goal is to inspire, encourage, and uplift. The mission is to Live Life Abundantly and to share the lifestyle with as many people as possible.

Summer Job for Students

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the nation’s teens, ages 16 to 19, are experiencing a record low employment rate since the late 1940s.

While it looks like slim pickings and tough competition for high school and college students seeking summer jobs, there is hope. I got a heads up from my friend Shannon, on a Full-time Summer Employment opportunity for students with the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power.

It seemed appropriate to not only post the opportunity but list other opportunities as well. If you or someone you know is looking for a summer job please share this information.

Myspace Security Alert

Last month Myspace.com rolled out its data availability user interface enabling Myspace users to share information such as pictures, videos etc…from their profiles across the Internet, or at least on Yahoo, Twitter, Photobucket, and Ebay.

Of course this seemed like a great idea at the time to the folks at Myspace…Apparently they were unaware of a serious security glitch in the system. It seems that profiles set to private on Myspace aren’t so private after all. Celebs on myspace have discovered that their private photos from their private Myspace profiles have been leaked all over the Internet. Yup, celebs really do have and check Myspace pages.

Supposedly, the problem has been resolved and the data availability interface has been deactivated. The lesson in this is, if you don’t want it seen, don’t put it on Myspace; even if your profile is set to private. Is there really any privacy online any more?

How to Deal With Rising Gas Prices

With gas prices at record highs everyone (except of course the Oil Corporations) is looking for some relief at the pump.  We all want cheaper gas prices and people in hell want ice water! So what do we do?  It’s like a catch 22.

Top Ten Ways to Deal with the Rising Gas Prices:

  1. Public Transportation
  2. Carpool
  3. Vanpool
  4. Work from home (telecommute)
  5. Walk, Jog, and/or run (more…)

Happy Cinco De Mayo

It’s May 5th and in Compton we are celebrating Mexican heritage and pride.

Contrary to popular belief, Cinco De Mayo is not a celebration of Mexico’s independence. We celebrate Cinco De Mayo in memory of Mexico’s victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. In Compton we take it a step further and celebrate Mexican culture, history, and ancestry with an annual festival.

When we learn and observe cultures other than our own, we are able to bridge gaps, open the doors of communication, and embrace one another. For those that thought Cinco De Mayo was Independence Day you just learned something new :) Mexican Independence Day is actually on Diez y Seis De Septiembre!

They Know Where YOU Live

Perhaps you have seen this before, but for those of you that haven’t…this might scare the hell out of you. If you have an address you want to scope out (or if someone has YOUR address and wants to scope your house out), you can do it quick, easy, and free using Google’s Street View. When you type in the address, you see a map… but the map will have a little box with an actual photo. When you click street view, that’s exactly what you get a real street view!

Here’s an example:

The Ghetto Birds in Compton

The helicopters were in full effect last night. I don’t know the full scope of what happened last night in my neighborhood, but of course I heard that it was gang related. Its crazy… Like I said, I don’t know what really happened but I’m hopeful that gangsta’s in Compton and around the country will change their thinking and change their lives!

A gunman armed with a high-powered military-style assault rifle traded fire with sheriff’s deputies Tuesday night on a city street in Compton before fleeing on foot, authorities said……..

Compton, which had seen a downturn in violence over the last two years, has had six homicides since April 17, including the shooting deaths of a man in a wheelchair and the friend who was pushing him.

Instead of venting my frustration about what’s happening in my city I’ll meditate on this blast from the past. Believe it or not some gangsta’s read (I don’t know if they read my blog. They are all over Myspace and Youtube)…but if any happen to stop by here, maybe they’ll watch this video and introspect. Hope Springs Eternal.

Despite what you may have seen on the news we are still birthing a new Compton. The media hasn’t mentioned any of the good things happening here but is always quick to show up to report anything bad.
