With every New Year comes resolutions and declarations
of “This Is My Year!”
Do you believe that 2012 is your year and If so, how is it your year? In 2012 will you:
- Lose weight?
- Quit smoking?
- Get rich?
- Buy a new car or your dream home?
- Travel the world?
- Get a raise, a promotion, new job, start your own business or retire?
- Get married, have a baby, or spend more time with family?
What exactly will make 2012 your year? What must occur in 2012 to qualify it as your year?
Once you have a clear idea as to what specifically will make 2012 your year, you must then answer the following two questions:
- What makes 2012 different than any other year?Â
- What will you do differently to truly make 2012 your year?
Set goals, make a vision board, and most importantly CHANGE YOUR THINKING!!! I’m not saying to change from thinking that 2012 is your year… I mean If 2011 wasn’t your year, you certainly don’t want to go into a new year with the same type of thinking you had the previous year expecting something different! As the saying goes, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” Your focus has to be personal development and getting yourself together in order to receive better… When you begin working to improve yourself you can’t help but improve your life!
Let Go Of:
- Hate -“Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated.”
- Jealousy -“There is no greater glory than love, nor any greater punishment than jealousy.”
- Grudges -“Resentment or grudges do no harm to the person against whom you hold these feelings but every day and every night of your life, they are eating at you”
- Prejudices -“Your greatness is measured by your kindness; your education and intellect by your modesty; your ignorance is betrayed by your suspicions and prejudices, and your real caliber is measured by the consideration and tolerance you have for others.”
- Anger -“For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.”
- Unforgiveness - is like “lighting yourself on fire and hoping the other person dies of smoke inhalation.” You are only hurting yourself.
Break Limited Beliefs & Negative Thought Patterns
First: Identify The Problem
What specific event in your life is causing you to feel negative emotion? (Anger, fear, resentment, sadness, etc.) Be specific.
Second: Acknowledge Your Thoughts and Beliefs About This Problem
What do you think about the situation? Is it frustrating? Are you upset? Are you angry or fearful?
How is this problem opposite from how you want things to be? Really acknowledge what you THINK about the situation.
Third: Byproducts of Your Beliefs
What emotions do you feel from these beliefs and thoughts? What type of action do you take as a result of these emotions? How do you feel from these emotions, beliefs, thoughts and actions?

So from here we have acknowledged the problem, identified the beliefs and thoughts about the problem, and discovered the negative emotions that harm your well-being. Although the beliefs, thoughts, emotions and actions may be justifiable in your case, that is not the objective. We are not looking to justify our current condition! We are looking to improve it! Therefore, let’s move onto step four…
Fourth: Ditch & Decide
Ditching the thoughts and actions that are bringing harm to you takes practice. Simply asking yourself one question like… Does it make me feel happy and healthy to keep thinking these thoughts and taking these actions? Get yourself to the point where you can let it go, and decide to think better, and to feel better.
