“A goal properly set is halfway reached.”
- Abraham Lincoln
Do you consider yourself to be smart? Way too many people aren’t with regards to goal setting. However, if you apply the method shared here, you’ll be sure to achieve every goal, every time.
What are SMART goals? There are five precise requirements setting SMART goals:
1. S = specific
2. M = measurable
3. A = attainable
4. R = relevant
5. T = time bound
A lot of people fail to reach their goals because they don’t know or use this method when setting goals. By using this SMART method of goal setting you position your business for success!
S: Your Goal Needs To Be Specific! Without a SPECIFIC goal, how will you know where you are on your journey towards it? Instead of saying ‘I want a new car’ you should say something more like ‘I want a black 2010 Range Rover’. Now you have a visual picture of exactly what you want to achieve.
M: Your Goal Needs To Be Measurable! It’s not enough to tell yourself that you want to make a lot of money – you have to make it measurable by specifying a number. By doing this you can chart your success and see how far along you are and what you need to do to achieve the success you want.
A: Your Goal Needs To Be Attainable! Steer clear of a goal so outrageous that you have no hope of reaching it. If your goal is to earn $100,000 a month residual income within 2 months, you should probably lower your sights to a more realistic and attainable level. If in your mind your goal is ridiculously unattainable, you won’t have the drive to achieve it. There’s nothing less inspiring than a goal that overwhelms you and causes you to take no action.
R: Your Goal Needs To Be Relevant! If your goal doesn’t get you passionate to achieve it, start over. Your goal can’t belong to someone else. Your goal must be something that is meaningful to you and you alone – forget what anyone else might think.
T: Your Goal Needs To Be Time Bound! Being time bound guarantees that you will have a far better chance at making your goals and dreams come true. How can you motivate yourself to achieve a goal if there is no deadline to do it by? A goal without a deadline is just a dream.
Everyone dreams of earning more money. Setting goals for your business can get you to those dreams, but you should remember to be SMART about the way you approach your goals.
As you think about what you would like to achieve with your business, think about this five step process of goal setting, then write down your goals.

Goal setting is very important specially if you want to plan long term.**-
Interessing post, like always !
It's really important in a business to have a goal and to respect the objective in the time.
Thinking always SMART, a great advice ! thank you
Great post! A great breakdown of the SMART principles.
It's amazing how few people actually use goals in their daily lives. The only thing I would add to your post is that people need to be flexible at the outset of their goal setting process. All too often I see people unwilling to adapt and adjust when their plan doesn't unfold exactly as envisioned.
