Perhaps you remember a previous blog post titled
Injustice In Mississippi: Double Life Sentence Over $10!
If not, let me quickly explain the content of the post. Two sisters were wrongfully convicted of crimes and given life sentences (not by a jury of their peers). Neither of them should be in prison right now considering the circumstances, evidence, witnesses, confessions etc (read about the actual case here).
Sadly, one of the sisters, Jamie Scott has some very serious health conditions that require immediate medical attention. The prison to date has not appropriately addressed her medical needs. When Jamie Scott was sent to prison almost 16 years ago she had a good bill of health. However, the conditions of prison life… from the poor diet to the stress and poor treatment has caused her to suffer life threatening illness.
She has kidney failure. A person with total kidney failure must either recieve a kidney transplant and/or dialysis three times a week. It is not a situation where a person can miss a few treatments and be ok. Additionally, people with kidney failure must follow a very stringent dietary plan. To date, Jamie Scott has not received regular dialysis treatments, proper nutrition, or adequate medical attention.
It’s bad enough she’s in prison for a crime she clearly did not commit…but to let her rapidly decline in health while she serves time for crime she did not commit is just more insult to injury. The governor of Mississippi should have the decency to investigate this case and see to it that Jamie Scott gets immediate medical attention. Moreover, Governor Barbour should grant a full pardon to the Scott sisters.
I urge anyone reading this now to look further into this and to take action by contacting the governor, congressman, and by signing the petitions. Jamie Scott needs you to act quickly, will you respond.      S.O.S.
