You can see wind turbines for miles on end if you travel from Palm Springs and Los Angeles, California. They were the brain child of the then California Governor Gerry Brown. Many thought he was off his rocker but he thought the whole state would someday use wind turbines for their primary source of electrical power. It has not turned out that way but he had a good idea you can take advantage of. And remember the wind mill has been one of the oldest form of power generation known to man.

But today years later the wind turbines are still there and still providing energy. Although their power is not as vast as Brown may have predicted. In this day of threats of global warming and going green to save the environment it is a question why there are not more wind turbines providing more power; perhaps there are not companies that came make a lot of money off wind turbines so they are not as developed as they should be.

You can take advantage of this technology on your property if you have the right system in place. You need a tall tower and a wiring system in place in your home or business to use the kinetic energy collected by the turbine.

You will have to of course have your local power company still providing energy because you cannot get any power if there is no wind to propel your turbine. But the more wind you have the less you will have to pay your electrical company.

And if you have more wind to provide more power than you need, the power company will actually buy the power from you. You need to have a consistent ten mile wind to power your home. So if you do not have this you might think twice about going through the expense to put one in. The system is not at all noisy. It is the same sound as a washing machine.

The turbine does not interfere reception so you will not have television problems. You will need a tower of at least one hundred feet tall. So check with your local zoning commission about this before you get serious. You can pay anywhere between five and twenty five thousand dollars to install a turbine. This depends on the height and size and who you contract with for the installation.

You will also have an annual maintenance cost. But after about fifteen years average your investment will pay for itself and you will have free power from there on out. For people looking to retire on their property this might be a worthwhile investment because they will not have to worry about power bill increases.

If you want to save even more money or get your investment to pay for itself sooner you can install the tower and the system yourself. Of you can always hire a company to do all the work and all the maintenance. The former California Governor Gerry Brown may have been thought to be crazy years ago. But there is nothing crazy about free electrical power.
