Five Foods For Thought

One of the biggest obstacles on the journey to weight loss is people’s problem with overeating. This usually happens because we tend to eat faster than our brains can process, which means that instead of feeling full as we should, we don’t feel full because our brains have not processed the fact that we have eaten. Therefore we end up feeling hungry again.

One of the best ways to lose weight is too choose foods that take longer to chew and eat thus forcing us to slow down and allowing our body to signal our brain when our hunger is satisfied. Keeping this in mind, here are 5 foods that will slow down your eating and help you to achieve that weight loss.

H20

Often times, when we think we are hungry, our bodies are actually trying to tell us that we are dehydrated. Drinking the appropriate amount of water a day will eliminate some of the hunger pangs that we feel. You should be drinking 8-10 8 oz glasses of water every day, and more if you are bigger than the average person.

Salads

Making a salad containing lettuce, cabbage, carrot, beetroot, and cucumbers provides our bodies with necessary fiber and vitamins while also providing us with a slower eating experience. The different textures in this salad, will cause you to have to chew more which results in eating slower. Taking time with your meal not only allows your body to recognize when it is full but also gives you the psychological feeling of having eaten a large meal.

However, don’t drown your salad in salad dressing. This defeats the entire purpose of eating a salad. Instead try a little lemon juice or some vinegar.

Oranges

Oranges provide natural and needed vitamins to your body while only containing about 50 calories per orange. Peeling an orange and eating it is a slow process that allows your body to recognize when it is satisfied therefore helping you to indulge a hunger pang without overeating.

Broccoli

Broccoli has lots of vitamins and minerals that the body needs and again it also takes a longer time to chew. You can cook broccoli or eat it raw in a salad but either way you are going to have to take your time eating it which is why it’s included in our top 5.

Chocolate Candy Bars

As strange as it may sound eating a 20 gram chocolate bar occasionally can actually help you lose weight. Chocolate helps to fight sweet cravings making you feel less like you are being denied food you enjoy. Hard chocolate bars, or those you refrigerate can take you longer to eat and satisfy both a hunger and sweet craving at the same time.

Now you must include other things in your diet as well. Variety is great. This list is just meant to get you thinking about the kinds of foods that can help you to lose weight and keep it off.
