Approximately 16 years ago around this time I went to my high school prom and was crowned Prom Queen. My school (University High in Los Angeles CA) was diverse and racial issues were for the most part— a non issue. The biggest issue we faced was what to wear! It’s shocking to learn that until 2008 students in Charleston, Mississippi, had segregated proms!
In 1997, Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman made an historic offer to the high school in his hometown of Charleston, Mississippi: He would foot the bill for the school’s senior prom—on condition that both black and white students be allowed to attend. Even though the students shared classes and every other aspect of school life, Charleston High had a tradition of holding two proms—one white, one black. Freeman’s offer was ignored. In 2008, he made it again. This time, the school accepted and history was made, but not without significant opposition. PROM NIGHT IN MISSISSIPPI tells the highly entertaining and ultimately hopeful story of the fallout from Freeman’s offer, as senior students of Charleston High rally in preparation for the school’s first-ever integrated prom.

It is so sad that people still continue to bring up issues on racism and it is not a problem in the US alone.
I feel sad to see racial discrimination still exist. Why can't we live in harmony?
I'm shocked that there would be 2 segregated proms still in this day and age…

Racial problem has to be neutralize. I hate it. No mater you are black, white, yellow, whatever … we're still human being. What makes different are our habbits. That's what usually make people look other people differently.
I agree. Well, I am a visible minority as well. I am a Chinese. May be because i'm living in a big city, Toronto. Racism hasn't been a big problem to me. However, i admit there were times that I didn't get treated fairly, but not a lot.
Sad indeed. It's amazing how people can hang on to something as ignorant as racism. I will NOT jeopardize my well being, happiness & definitley will not jeopardize my ETERNITY over something so plain out stupid. I was put here to love ALL and that's exactly what i'm going to do. If your hated for the color of your skin or just for being different then let them hate. They're the ones that have to pay for their own actions in this life and after this life.
Yeah, I never knew that people still do this. I thought we learned our part and our lesson already. We should not continue racism, It is not nice. and if theres something bad that is happening in the world or to another, we only have each other to take care of someday. I hope soon we could have an invitation with no WHITES ONLY written
Lets live Peacefully and happy Together!
I say no to discrimination..We are all human maybe born in different places have different races and colors, but we breath the same air that keep us all live.
I was shocked when I watched this video. I thought that this sort of stuff was far behind us. I once lived in a small town in Florida where there was still a lot of racism but it was never to the point where the schools actually endorsed it by having something so silly as segregated proms. I really don't get it, they don't want prayer in school but they will put up with this?
