What You Should Know about Alcohol Abuse

Usually people and surely the most intelligent of the lot would not like to take a look at their alcohol abuse or use and most of the time it works, at least for the time being. Sad to say, the long duration of alcohol association can pilot the way to more problems, reality and mythically speaking.

Misuse or over use of alcohol can show us the way towards the development of an on-going and irreparable condition that can possible lead to an incurable “disease” for which recovery is a very difficult undertaking and considering the thought that this condition is far worst than getting drunk, is an idea that often misleads most of us.

The inclusion of either moderation or real recovery in the “assessments” used is not something that they considering making this situation a more confusing scheme since it only present a treatment that is limited to the one-size-fits-all strategy. Whatever research may say, we know from our real-life experience that people do keep on altering their patterns of alcohol use just the way they do with other persistent problems like smoking, weight loss, etc.

The maximum limit which is considered safe and healthy differ between an adult man and a woman and they are two drinks of distilled spirits, two bottles of beer, or one half bottle of wine per day and half that for men and women respectively. These amounts confer the most health benefits without any associated detrimental effects. Though it can be possible that you will devour into more alcohol than you can manage whenever you will find yourself trapped in a social gathering or event, your average consumption should still be limited to the recommended restrictions.

Usually these two symptoms appear simultaneously, but either of them demands a closer look. Causes are usually due to solitude, tiredness, lack of company and things to do. Intervention is usually done at this stage by which normalcy or healthy use could be sought but counseling could help in revealing the cause behind this and can be of great assistance.

While restoration of normal and healthy drinking habit is the usual practice, but complete cessation from drinking for at least one or two years is highly recommended. Most people practice this never to tough alcohol ever and find more productive and beneficial ways to lead their lives. Addiction to alcohol or alcoholism results when one’s mental and physical self is saturated with alcohol.

The re-establishment of a healthy and normal drinking consumption is the most common solution, however the most suggested option is the total seclusion of one’s self from drinking for about one to two years. Many people who do this never return to drinking at all, having successfully modified their lives in other and more satisfactory ways. The degree to which the infiltration of alcohol to a person is greatly affecting his or her physical, emotional, and psychological aspects is often the result of an alcohol addiction or alcoholism. When the body is denied alcohol even temporarily, you can see several characteristic withdrawal symptoms ranging from physical reactions like tremors and seizures to mental ones like black outs even several mental disorientations are visible in various aspects of life including financial, legal, vocational, marital, recreational, social and medical. About a third of diagnosed alcoholics were found to have been drinking again but only to a moderate level.

At this stage both medical and counseling help is usually necessary given the physical, social, emotional, and psychological aspects. Even though chances are slim when it comes to recovery and results may vary from one person to another, still, hopelessness should never be allowed since the main driving forces towards achieving the desired results are proper motivation and the effectiveness of one’s determination.

The healthy and moderate consumption levels of alcohol are never hard to achieve again even if such person tends go beyond the normal alcohol consumption and had been a dependent to it. More than 58 percent of U.S. adults with alcohol addiction (alcoholism) that began more than one year ago were able to moderate their use by a year later (according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism).

If you are getting worried about yourself or any one who you care for dearly, seek help and there are actually several treatment options available and not an ‘all-embracing’ therapy option which is relegated to everyone, irrespective of any concern of their specific condition. Alcohol abuse is a non-disease condition therefore, accepting uniform treatment that is similar to the manner by which fatal diseases such as cancer is treated by all means in all stages and types should not be considered.
