As a native of the Northeast, I love how many scenic areas there are to visit. I have never tired of scenery because there is so much variety. One of the ways to get a full appreciation of what the Northeast has to offer is from a bike. Although famous for its fall foliage, a ride in this region is a treat regardless of the season. Here is a list of some of the most beautiful trails in the Northeastern United States.
Near the town of Victor, New York is the Dryer Road Bike Trail. This is a favorite for families and groups because the trails appeal to many skill levels. With new trails being added there is sure to be something appealing to all. With cool cut backs, s-turns, challenging climbs and descending trails, the versatility is enough to keep experienced cyclists satisfied.
Just outside Parsonsfield, Maine is the Cedar Mountain Loop. This trail is approximately 12 miles long and is suitable for amateur cyclists. Though there are a few spots that are pretty steep, the top of the trail is worth the extra panting and sweat. On your descent, be aware of the water bars below. A 6 foot water bar can catch you off guard, so be ready.
Near Allentown, NH are the trails of Bear Brook State Forest. These trails are versatile and are great for experts and amateurs alike. Though this park is very popular, 100 miles of track can ensure a great ride with few other cyclists in the way. There is a nominal fee of $2.50 required and it is recommended that you get a map before starting out. There are a few precautions to consider before pursuing these trails. With 100 miles of track, you may want to bring a friend or two. Being isolated brings issues you may not want to face alone.
The Cross Vermont Trail near Burlington is a favorite among avid bikers as well as other trail seekers. There are often hikers, cross-country skiers, and horseback riders but, with 75 miles of track, there is plenty of trail to go around. The trails are mostly gravel and multiple exit paths, you can take as long or as short a ride as you like.
For all you serious cyclists out there, Lynn Woods in Lynn Massachusetts is the spot for you. If you are looking for a challenge, look no further!! The terrain includes fire road, slick rock, thick clay, steep hills with long descents. If you find your skill level is not up to all of the challenges Lynn Woods has to offer, there are bailout spots along the way. Come prepared and well rested, these trails will not disappoint.
With so many biking trails in this beautiful region of the US, it is hard to narrow down the top spots. Hopefully this list will help you get started on your Northeast cycling adventure. There are so many places to see and so many fun and experiences to have; so get on your bike and ride!
