Self Help is Helping Yourself

If you are looking for self-help products, that typically means that you arent happy, right? Be it your self-image, relationships, career, or whatever else, you want to be able to improve the things that you ultimately control. You can get a map to what you want, but you are the one that must follow it. Thats what makes it what it is.

Successful people all have certain characteristics that make them successful. Before we go any further, lets differentiate between success and money. Money is a by-product of success, but it can also be something that the lucky few of the world are born into with no effort at all. If you look at the motivators of many successful people, whose accomplishments resulted in fantastic wealth, youll find that their focus was not entirely on what they could earn, but on realizing their own potential.

For example, the things that come with success (money, power, respect) are what we are all ultimately after, and are the most celebrated things about successful people, right? Of course, in order to achieve those, you need to develop good habits, which is what all self help course usually try to do.

While we dont usually see these good habits, everybody who is doing what they want to in life has them. These are what we want to emulate and focus on. Focusing on the material goods and social advantages of being successful too early on will just depress and us and prevent us from advancing. This is not helpful.

One lesson that many self help programs try to teach their students is a skill that many successful people are already familiar with: the ability to get rid of limiting beliefs. People who have limiting beliefs never get anywhere in life simply because they dont believe that they can. How are you going to reach your goal if you wont even consider it possible that you can get there? If you tell yourself things like, Theres just no way that I can keep this fitness routine. Then you will at least have the satisfaction of proving yourself right. If youre going to be serious about applying the disciplines of self help programs to your life, you must at least believe that you can change.

Another good habit that we consistently see across the board in self help programs is the idea of setting goals. Setting goals does two things: it keeps us focused, but it ultimately makes us happier. How?

One good way, in fact, the best way to set goals is NOT to have a big list of everything that you arent. This is not productive either. Whats a lot better is to imagine the person that you want to be. What does that person do to achieve their success? Does this person have the discipline to exercise three times a week? Is this person friends with negative people that do nothing but bring them down, or does he or she surround him or herself with positive people that encourage them?

Think about what you CAN accomplish first. As you accomplish more and more, youll find that you are more and more capable of accomplishing increasingly challenging tasks, because your confidence and skills are growing.

This type of strategic visioning in the self help field is nothing new, and it can be very powerful. So if you want to change, all you have to do is believe its possible, and then set your goals.

Ina, you are bang on when you say that success is more about realizing about one's potential than about money. When you are passionate about something, and believe in yourself you are bound to get what you want and that's success for me!
