Using DIY Wind Power to Slash Your Energy Bill

Do-It-Yourselfers always find a way to save money on gadgets and home improvements. This is true also of wind powered turbines. Seeking an alternate power source to save money and natural resources, these home gurus have turned to DIY wind power kits for their home power needs.

In order to purchase a DIY kit, you should check on some basic, necessary elements necessary to installing a wind turbine. Do you have a location that receives enough wind? Does your city or town have codes or permit requirements for wind powered turbines? Do you have space on your land for a 20-30 foot tower?

If these questions are answered positively you are ready to move forward with finding a suitable DIY kit. To decide on a kit you must decide how much power you want to generate. Are you looking to supplement or replace your power source? If you are planning to replace your power source you could feasibly sell excess power back to the power company.

As a supplement to your power source you will only need a small DIY kit. These kits are for wind turbine generators that create enough power to use for your workshop or outside areas or to power a portion of your home. These are feasible even in areas of light wind due to the advances in technology. If you are looking to go off the grid you should choose a larger kit.

So you know you can put a DIY wind turbine in your yard and you know the size of turbine you want; now you just need to decide what kind of kit you want. Do you want one that is ‘out of the box’ ready to assemble and use or are you content with gathering the necessary parts before building your turbine?

If you don’t mind spending a little more money, you can order a kit that comes ready to assemble out of the box. This kit will still save you large sums of money versus commercially built turbines and are convenient if time is a factor. The kit comes with complete instructions for assembling and using the turbine.

The second option is a DIY kit that has instructions, diagrams, and often videos on how to find the necessary parts and then how to put them together to make a wind turbine. These kits are a lot less expensive than complete kits but require more time. Technical kits are very detailed and also offer tips on finding the necessary parts at discounts.

DIY wind generators are available to supply power for homeowners who wish to supplement their power. From small kits to large kits, from complete all inclusive kits to technical information and details only kits, wind powered turbines can be built for a fraction of the cost of buying a commercially built wind turbine.

I must not be a DIY-er at heart….that seems like WAY too much work for me. But kudos to those who have the know-how to do such things!

I agree that solar panel can make my finance get better, however I can't build it manually since I'm not a techie one. I did a research and found that $500 will be suitable to buy a ready to use solar panel, I think that is my choice and you really convinced me, thank you

Good post. Solar energy is the wave of the future!

Good idea for future. but actually i think that many other issu must be resolved before that

  6. i think ive got to try your suggestions. hopefully it'll work!

  7. That is very intresting, and something to truly think about for the future:)

I wish we had the room and the ability to have a wind powered tower for our house…I know my hubby would absolutely LOVE building it!

Personally I think the alternate power sources have future. Renewable power sources especially. Best regards Folk Art

nice blog nice article, good information

I also agree with Folk Art that solar power is the future. With the rate of electricity going steadily higher in the UK, I think that more people will be looking in to other resources

this is a great idea, i wish i lived in an area that wasn't full of trees, i would love to do something like this, it could really make a difference.

  15. As a business owner i not only saved in electricity, but i also hired a collection agency who helped me recover over 60% of my debt. WNRS, i would recommend them to anyone looking to save further. http://www.wnrs.com

  16. I would love to be able to use wind power at my home the only problem is I don't have a large enough lot for a tower and I don't think it would be a good Idea to mount a turbine on the house.

  17. Urgh, and of course my area doesn't allow such things. Don't you just love pointless government interference? Heaven forbid we should approach self-sufficiency. Either way, a fantastic post. Thank you!

  18. Did you know the US is now the #1 producer of Wind Power. While I certainly give Kudos to Solar the winds of change are here. Thanks for the info and raising awareness of these solutions.

Great article. You will be amazed how many people do not know that they can make their own power at home. And that it really does not cost that much to make it either. Look, not everyone can use wind power at home , but solar is a great solution since it requires less space and not legal hurdles need to be overcome to install it at home. Whereas if you plan to erect say a 20ft wind turbine tower, you need permission first.

  20. Lets face you can have windpower in a townhouse but untill people get their act together we will keep on polluting the air like crazy – how are the 18mln+ people in london area to build wind generators.. Then again every rock in the pond raises the water no?

  21. I belive that DYI wind energy is OK. best regards Jamajka

  22. I live in greece, and the govmnt has just started suporting solar power..
but wind power is something untouched yet..Great post! got me thinking..
