The Benefits of Stretching For Your Health and Fitness

Your body is meant to be able to bend down low and pick up something on the floor, or reach something high up on a shelf. This is all down to the flexibility you have in your body to bend and flex.

If you are having difficulty doing simple tasks like this, you need to learn how to stretch better. These tasks may be simple, but you take them for granted, until you find it hard doing them.

Stretching? What Is It?

Extending your body to a flull length, part of it, or straightening or stretching your limbs is considered stretching.

How Should I Do It?

* Regardless of what age you are, stretching can be done by all.

* With age, your degrees of flexibility vary and also too with frequency of practice. Stretching more allows you to lose less flexibility as you ago.

* You can incorporate stretching into your day to day activities and it does not require much of your time. What’s more it should be done every day.

* Stretching is important in preparation for a training routine or any vigorous exercise and is essential to any sport. It should be done first before anything else.

* A very common stretch athletes do is the sit and reach, where the sit on the floor with their legs extended out in front of them. They then reach for their toes with the fingertips.

* It is best to do all your stretching in a span of 10 minutes as this will give the body enough oppurunity to move around and flex your muscles. You are then more prepared for more difficult and harder muscle movements.

Stretching? How Does It Benefit Me?

* Increases Movement – Your range of movements will increase as your muscle and tendons increase in length due to stretching. It can prevent injuries from occuring.

* Increases Your Ability to Perform Skills – With a winder range of movement, you can do more things such as jumping higher in basketball, turning faster in football and generally help you improve. It also allows you a more active way of life.

* Don’t Get Hurt As Much – You won’t get injured as much if your muscles and joints are more flexible as there is more ‘give’ with your body. If you do get hurt, you can recover better and faster.

* Reduce Muscle Tension – It is less likely for your muscles to contract and build up tension if you regularly stretch them out.

* Gives You Energy – Having the knowledge that you can accomplish more things physically will keep you active and energized as you’ll want to do those physical things.

Doing stretches doesn’t take much time for you to do. It can be merged into your day to day activities and after a while, it becomes second nature. The benefits of stretching keep your mind and body healthy and is good for overall fitness, so make it a part of your life today!
