It’s that time of year again, the holiday season is upon us. I wrote a letter to Santa last year. I’m glad I did. Santa didn’t bring everything on the list, but I did get #3 and #4 from last year’s list.»
Once again I’m posting my list here because I know how much Santa enjoys reading my blog, so its impossible for this to go unnoticed.
Dear Santa,
Thank you for the wonderful gifts last year. I’m using the MacBook Pro right now its wonderful. I was going to personally thank you the other day in the mall but you were surrounded by children all waiting to take pictures with you. You know I’m not big on waiting in long lines so here I am writing you instead… I did wave, did you see me?
You looked great. Did you shed a few pounds? You know I’ve been concerned about your health. This year I’m leaving out a bowl of fresh organic fruits and a bottle of Monavie.
I feel a little guilty for asking for so much stuff for myself last year.
This year I really want to focus on gifts that keep on giving and on gifts that will help others. I believe that will bring me the most joy personally. Is that selfish? I hope not.
I wish that I could say that I’ve been 100% nice, but throughout the year I’ve said some pretty mean (but true) things about President Bush and made him the butt of many jokes. I’m not sorry for what I’ve said, I just want to be open and honest with you. Truth be told, you probably said a few things too.
Now that we’ve gotten the naughty or nice thing out of the way, we can get down to business with my 2008 Christmas List. The economy this year was even worse than last, but I’m sure you and Mrs. Claus made the appropriate provisions for such a time as this. Anyhoo, here’s my list in no particular order:
1. Urban Agriculture Training Program
The course is a series of five, three–day weekend seminars, January through May (participants are expected to attend and participate in all five, three-day sessions).
The program begins on Friday and continues on Saturday mornings with small class meetings. Participants then move into hands-on learning on Saturday afternoon and Sunday.
During this time, attendees concentrate on skill building focused on the participant’s individual farming business.
Workshop Location: Growing Power Community Food Center 5500 West Silver Spring Drive Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53218
Workshop Dates: January 9-11, 2009 February 20-22, 2009 March 6-8, 2009 April 17-19, 2009 May 15-17, 2009
Santa if you could kindly include airfare and lodging that would be awesome, See Ace 4 Travel has great deals f.y.i.
2. Gift Ark: Changing the World Two By Two
The Heifer Gift Ark offers hope worldwide to families who are poor and hungry. This particular gift from the helps children and families around the world receive training and animal gifts that help them become self-reliant. The Gift Ark is an opportunity to participate in helping families start on a journey to fulfill a seemingly impossible dream – to secure food and a source of dependable income.
3. The Ultimate Breakout Package
1,000 CD’s in jackets, 24 custom-printed T-shirts, 300 11″x17″ posters, and 1,000 2″ square stickers to promote our long over due 1st official release.
4. Black Kenmore 8.8 cu. ft. Chest Freezer
This one should be self explanatory.
Shopping in bulk requires additional freezer space. I learned a lot this summer watching and trying to get rid of the ants. They store food. There’s only so much that can fit in our refrigerator.
My grandparents always talk about freezing things for hard times (they remember the days of the depression).
With the rising costs of food and this awful economy I think a freezer is practical. Don’t you?
5. Google Stock
I’m thinking long term. I know people have lost their life savings in the stock market. I know the stock market is volatile right now. I believe that Google is solid and I would love some shares
6. Apple iPhone
The ability to take quality photos, check email, blog, talk, get directions, access information while on the go is important for a woman like me. It’s almost a necessity but I understand that it is a luxury.
I’m sure the iPhone is a common request and that I probably should’ve written my letter sooner. Just keep me in mind
7. Sea World & The San Diego Zoo
A weekend in San Diego with my grandmother…we want to take the train (my grandmother likes the scenic route). She’s never been to Sea World and wants to go. I’ve never been to the San Diego Zoo (neither has she). We’ve been talking about taking this trip for over a year now but have yet to do it. So Santa if you could pull a few strings that would be great. My sister Michelle wants to go too!
8. Vacation for My Mom
My mother could really use a spa day and a relaxing vacation on a tropical island. She’s never been to the Bahamas. I think she would enjoy a weekend with a friend in the Caribbean. I know a site that has great travel deals fyi. If you could slip some tickets in my mom’s Christmas stocking this year that would be great!
9. Holiday Party
You know I don’t throw too many social gatherings at my house…but this year I’m feeling really festive. It would be awesome if you could gather up my closest friends and family members…find a way to free up all of our schedules (everybody is soooo busy) so that we can enjoy each other’s company and get in the true spirit of the holiday season.
10. My Husband’s List
My hubby never sends you letters but I know he makes a mental list every year. I don’t know how you get his lists but obviously you do because you always come through. This year he’s been extra good and has worked really hard. Even if it means that you can’t bring me anything on my list … can you please bring him everything that he asks for… he never asks for much…and he certainly doesn’t ask for as much as I ask for…
Well I guess that sums up my list. I thank you in advance and send lots of love your way.
Happy Holidays,
Marenda

Hi Marenda
I think I'll add the iphone to my list since I already have the freezer. I am sure Santa will bring at least some of that for you. I don't think he's going to hold the Bush comments against you because I heard that Santa isn't too happy with Bush right now with him hurting his main gig and all with this crappy economy.
That's quite a list
Mark

That's a pretty wide range of gift requests this year. I hope you get everything you want. Good Luck
Great gift ideas. I'm personally contemplating the iPhone as well. I've held out thus far but I think I'm finally gonna get one too. There are way to many USEFUL applications being released that I truly need for almost daily function to pass it up. Good luck with getting one
This is cute, funny and it makes me feel warm inside. I'm sure there's nothing better than those presents for christmas.
Interesting List!!! I have just even taken some ideas for me too
If I were a Santa
I would give you all those presents!!!
Dear Santa, please take me back to my childhood, just for this Xmas Eve, i want that feeling back!
personally I love #1 if you happen to receive two tickets would you consider me as your guest? please! Also I liked #10 very sweet and very selfless. he is a lucky man even if he doesnt get all his gifts!
I like 7 and 8 personally and I really feel like I need a vacation to Jamaica myself! LOL
You're right, that's one skinny Santa. I thought Santa was the one person on this planet that didn't have to worry about his weight. It's part of the job description to be overweight.
I agree with your posting.
Very good informations.
Greetings and all good wishes from Russia
Nice list! Hope Santa will fulfill all your wishes.
Great post, really made me think
The other year I asked Santa for a 1,000% ROI but never got it though. I guess I have been bad.
Best of luck with getting everything on that list;)
The Urban Agriculture Training Program really sparks my interest. I've always loved seeing programs that turn otherwise unuseable spaces into valuable corners on Mother Earth. Kudos to you Marenda for bringing this wonderful program to light.
Hm. I guess santa has got the list. Don't worry about that.
Mmmm Monavie! My girlfriend got us hooked on it last year we just love the stuff.
If I were Santa I'd make sure to get my elfs to send you a case full.
MmmMonavie sooo good.
Great blog. Very nice resource. I have a blog on making money on the internet. Please do visit.
Such a nice letter and nice point too. i like it.
Great list, especially number 5! Google stock went from $715/share down to $300 at the moment. Google is in my opinion the strongest internet company and has no where to go but up, so this is probably the best time to buy their stock. Recessions are bad…. but recessions are also one of the best times to invest if you can manage to do it.
Lol, I think it's a very good Christmas list. Let's hope Santa's good to you this year! Hopefully he's good to my girlfriend and me, as well!
You gotta love monavie. I've never felt better. If you want to try it go ot http://www.monavie4less.com
Nice list! Hope all your wishes will come true.
I like your style, healthy and hearty, my kinda gal!
Many blessings.
haha, It remains me that I still don´t have done my list
great list! i especially like the last one!
I want an iPhone or something like it too, because my current phone is rather beat up and has been around the block a few times. The iPhone looks so nice and has all sorts of cool features and programs. With the price drop, I am really tempted, but I just really don't want to switch to AT&T, so I will probably go with a similar Nokia model.
Yeah thats an important one the last one lol…
It really is a big list by the way…
Steven Colbert interviewed the vertical urban farming advocate Dickson Despommier not long ago. Very cool old professorly type with a good sense of humour. I’m not sure on the commercial viability either but hope they try to pilot it somewhere anyway. Could be the way of the future.
Wow I was really touched on this post of yours Marenda. I'm thinking of making my own too and write things that are meaningful yet simple as yours. I wanted the one on google stock, it's a good idea as well as iphone and the freezer
.
My favorite part is where you butter him up….You look good, have you lost weight? Bwah!
Love your list, Mine would be a vacation trip with my family.
Go for the iphone, seriously you won't be dissapointed! I just splurged for one and it has literally transformed the way I do things in my life. All the apps are a blast and allow for the ability to monitor and track nearly anything you want. Not to mention being able to stay organized and focus. I'm able to sync todo lists, calendars and even my budgets to my computer and stay on top of things. Make sure to get this one!
Well, I only have one wish… "the coming year will be better than this year" ^^
Anyway, I like your 10th point, very sweet (",)
Your list is very good. I like your 5th point Google Stock the best. hope Santa will fulfill them all.
a good list , like it very much, pray to god coming year give us prosperity and solve our problems
great blog really helped me alot.
he is a lucky man even if he doesnt get all his gifts!
Very long list. but i'm more interested in agriculture program. Let plant trees and eat healthy. make everyone healthy.
Every year we have several wishes which remains unfulfilled so I always add them to the next list first of first. I hope that one day Santa will be so kind to get me all.
Urban Agriculture sounds like a great gift! Hopefully that will happen – could be an interesting blog on it's own!
Very interesting article. These gifts are very useful.
Great list indeed. I was looking at getting the iPhone this christmas hopefully! It has just the applications I need for my to do lists and things like that.
The Gift Ark sounds like a noble cause..i hope you truly get this wish, im you will. On the other hand, your mom and i have a common wish on having a vacation at the Bahamas.
Hope she have a blast..:)
great list! thank you
Merry Christmas . All the best for 2009.
My mom could use a vacation to. I can’t even afford to give myself one though.
Well, to me It's very late to write my letter to Santa to 2008 hehehehe. For my b-day i would like an Iphone
The list seems to a classic one and it is is very good indeed. My deam is #6 in your list though.
We run a children’s toys shop in the UK, in December we offer a new for old special offer – everyone that brings in an old (but good condition) children's toy and they parents get a discount off any toy in our independent toy shop.
Agree with Iratesloth. Its $497 on today's index and still is one of the best gifts one can have. Santa pls make my wish list come true this year!
I do like your list. I just hope the economy gets better so we can all have a great Christmas this year!
