Happy Thanksgiving

Thu, 27th November, 2008 - Posted by Marenda

I’m giving thanks all day and spending time with family.

Thanksgiving means different things to different people. For me, Thanksgiving is a day of deep reflection and a day to express appreciation to not just each other, but to God!

As humans most of us always want more, strive for more, and/or are never satisfied.

This year if you still have a job…BE THANKFUL!

This year if you still have your house…BE THANKFUL!

This year if you still have a refrigerator with food in it…Be Thankful!

This year if you woke up in your right mind…BE THANKFUL!

SAY THANK YOU!

A Poem for Thanksgiving…..

as we sit around the table this year
smiling with loved ones as we laugh
we say a prayer before the feast
asking good to bless the good eats
but in my heart as i always do
i pray for those who have no way
of having the chance to come home to
a home cooked meal a turkey and some wine
pecan and pumpkin and pies of all kinds
i pray for those whose family look at the seat
where there used to be a love one
who is no longer able to greet
family and friends as they come in the door
not everyone will notice the tears
or the scores of families this year
who feel a sense of loss
a special occasion
for many not happy anymore
for they have lost someone
who went overseas
to fight a bloody war

I appreciate your thoughts, especially about hunger and poverty. Author Jim Wallis says that "the poor will always be with us" is the most misused line in the Bible, that it overlooks Jesus' assumption that his disciples would always be among and concerned about the poor. I've found that when I write posts about poverty on my blog (http://www.imperfectserenity.com ) I get more defensiveness from readers than on any other subject.
