Black Friday MADNESS

Having worked years in retail I don’t shop the day after Thanksgiving… or the day after Christmas… Brings back too many unhappy memories. Retail is a grueling thankless job especially this time of year!

Holiday shopping is never something I look forward too. Why? Because people are rude, pushy, and overly aggressive.

The holiday spirit of peace, love, and joy turns ugly when it comes to shopping. Today a man was trampled to death by a stampede of eager shoppers at a Wal Mart in green acres mall. He worked at the store and was simply doing his job.

When did

    things

become more important than common courtesy or even respecting and regarding human life? Why are people so eager to purchase

    stuff

that they would stampede a store for a Black Friday Deal?

When you’re out shopping, be respectful and courteous.  Remember the golden rule. Treat people the way you want to be treated.  Is that so hard?

ATTENTION WALMART SHOPPERS!

Stay cool, calm, and collected.  Say thank you, be nice to the workers.  Take your time and be mindful of the people around you. PEOPLE FIRST!

Oh nice, you use Intense Debate!!! Me too.. Yeah, I know that sometimes big crowds kind of freak me out so I try to relax around the holidays. Stress is a huge problem and I'm in the process of healing so I try to relax and take it easy. I tried to comment on your visualization post but I guess its closed. Hope all is well…

It's so sad to hear that people walked over the victims. I mean, did they do it on purpose, or was the crowd so mad people couldn't look where they put their feet?
    A real tragedy!

  5. This is one of the most unfortunate incidents.. I cannot beleive people who lack common courtesy and just trample the poor fellow to death. I guess with all the excitement about cheap products and lower prices, people have just stopped thinking about acting in a dignified manner..

I heard some of these stories of the mad rush on buying and the mess and devastation it caused in some places. It really makes you think if this is absolutely necessary

  7. This is shocking. I'm still struggling to imagine how this could happen in an otherwise civilized society.
I've never shopped the day after Thanksgiving, and don't intend to start anytime soon.

Can you believe the stories about the security guard and the pregnant woman? So, so sad. That guard was only 34 years old, and is now dead because people wanted to save 5 damn dollars!

It is just crazy how people would be that crazed to rush in a store and not feel the body under their feet. I would be horrified if I witnessed that sort of event. All for a sale. WOW.

That is seriously crazy. It is really sad that people can't or don't put things into perspective.

I wonder why some people act like that, dont they consider that they were actually walking on someones head, lots of weird stuffs are actually happening nowadays

I totally agree! This is why I generally don't even leave my house on Black Friday. People's attitudes are ridiculous when it comes to gift shopping! And those attitudes completely destroy the spirit in which gifts should be given. We give gifts to be kind and thoughtful toward others. Where is that kind of thinking when the gifts are being purchased?

People make way too big of a deal out of saving a few bucks. Most stores lose money on their doorbusters, so they only stock a few of their best deals. The odds of getting the deal are slim to none. You can get just as good of deals later on in the shopping season. The problem really happens when it turns violent and people are willing to fight for a toy. Have they heard of online auction websites? Great post!

  14. BFads says:

I disagree Paul. Black Friday is one of the better days of the year to get good discounts on a bunch of products. In general, merchants know that they have to have a great sale or else people will shop somewhere else. It puts pressure on them to give consumers the savings they need while bringing in high volume traffic.

  15. Black Friday says:

One thing I've noticed about Black Friday is that less people are actually going to the stores to shop. Since you can get most of the items online on Thanksgiving Day, there was a lot less traffic at the stores this past year. Of course, we were just starting the recession too and the deals weren't that hot, so I guess that contributed to it too.
