Winning The Lottery

When ever I play the lottery (which is rare, I only play when the jackpot is huge), I always believe that I have the winning ticket. I can’t possibly be the only person that thinks that way. People buy lottery tickets because they hope and even expect to win, right?

Anyhoo…the other day I heard the lottery was up to 30 million. I thought to myself hmmm what would you do with 30 million dollars? My mind raced through a plethora of thoughts.

I bought two tickets, one for Mega Millions and the other for Super Lotto plus.

Then I thought, wow, what if I win both?

Nothing wrong with wishful thinking.

I remembered a documentary I saw on lottery winners and a news report about a so called curse of the lottery. As I waited patiently for the drawings, I decided to come up with a plan of what not to do upon winning the lottery. (can you guess what is #1 on my list?)

I have to admit, my list of what not do wasn’t nearly as long as my what to do list.

My next immediate thought was…

Considering the recent problems with the banking industry and the Bailout, would my winnings be safe with my current bank? What about the FDIC limits? How or would any of that affect me?

The possibility of winning the lottery was making my brain work overtime with all sorts of “what if” scenarios like: should I contribute to an existing charity or start my own?

Sounds crazy huh? These are just some of the thoughts that were running through my brain. I honestly believe “to whom much is given, much is required.”

Upon winning the lottery I vow to be a responsible and good steward of the prize. Whats wrong with already having some idea or even a financial plan in mind pre-winning?

With all of this planning, can you believe I forgot to watch the drawing. Nobody won that drawing, so tonight its up to $42 ,000,000. What would you do with that

The number #1 Do Not on my list is: Do Not Tell Anybody (which includes not blogging about it lol)
