They Prayed for Rain & Got a Hurricane

Just about everyone has heard the saying “God Doesn’t Like Ugly.”

Praying for RainWell, it would seem that the rain on the Republican National Convention parade, is an ironic demonstration of that old saying.

Remember the call for people to pray for rain in time for Barack Obama’s acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention?

Looks like that plan backfired.

Instead of rain, the clever folks that actually thought they could manipulate God with such a malicious prayer….stirred up some wrath in the form of a hurricane.

Now look, the Republican National Convention has been disrupted and millions are forced to evacuate….

Is this a sign that God is on the Democrats side?

Is it just a coincidence?

I’m more inclined to believe the later.

However, I do believe it may serve as a wake up call to those that would attempt to use prayer to cause harm, hurt, or wreak havoc. It also makes Christians look like hypocritical idiots, as it does not reflect the “love thy neighbor do unto others” values of Christianity.

Praying for rain in hopes of putting a damper on the Barack Obama campaign and the Democratic National Convention was a terrible and mean spirited idea. Many people took it as a joke, (supposedly it was a joke wink wink ha ha very Not funny) but there were many that took it to heart, which is sad.  There were people that were really seriously for real praying for it to rain!

As a Californian and former Atlanta dweller, I understand praying for rain because of drought and wild fires… We need rain to sustain and balance life… but praying for rain to hinder or disrupt an event is something else…

For every prayer against Barack Obama,

praying for Obamathere are hundreds more prayers for Barack Obama, his family, his running mate, and his presidency.

It is said that “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” (James 5:16)

As I watch and participate in this historic time… it would seem that the prayers of Barack Obama supporters are being heard and answered.  Every day Obamacrats pray that no weapon formed against Barack Obama shall prosper.

McCain supporters should perhaps consider doing the same or similar, as any prayer calling for problems for Barack Obama are not only inappropriate but null and void!

I can rattle off a laundry list of things the American people should pray for… none of which involve shutting down John mcCain’s acceptance speech. There are far more pressing things for us to pray for….

We should pray for all elected officers and leaders regardless of their political party or views…

We should pray for all of those affected by hurricane Gustav.

We should pray for all those that saw fit to pray for rain to interfere with Barack Obama’s acceptance speech.

We should pray for God to Bless America!

Leaders of Our Country Prayer by Germaine Copeland
Father, thank You for the United States and its government. I pray for the president, the national and local government, the judges, the policemen, the business leaders and all those who are in leadership positions in this country. Please protect them from the evil that is in the world and keep them safe and free from all harm.

Your Word says that when good men are in authority, the people celebrate, but when wicked men are in authority, the people are unhappy. I pray that You will keep good men and women in authority over my country. I ask that You promote and raise up a generation of able politicians who are men and women of truth, full of wisdom and respectful towards You.

You have promised to bless any nation that follows after You. Help us to live quiet and peaceful lives so that we can continue to spread the Good News of the Gospel throughout the United States and the world.

I also pray that You give the men and women in leadership positions the understanding, wisdom and ability to keep this country in order. I ask that You guide the presidents heart and cause him to make decisions that will promote godliness. Please keep evil and wicked men from influencing the president. Keep his office based on things that are right.

Father, I pray for my brothers and sisters in the Lord who are in positions of leadership. I ask You to strengthen them in their hearts with all might by Your Spirit. Cause them to be bold and courageous. Surround them with favor as a shield, and expand their godly influence.

I pray for those in leadership positions who are not born again and who do not have a personal relationship with Your Son, Jesus. I pray that You will send someone to share Jesus with them and open their eyes to the light.

I pray for the Supreme Court. I ask that the men and women make righteous judgments, that they reach just and fair conclusions. Help the judges to inquire diligently, that they may make sound decisions. Turn their hearts to change past decisions and make new decisions that uphold goodness and godliness in our nation. If there is anyone who refuses godliness, I ask that he/she be removed and replaced by the one who respects godliness.

I ask that You cause the leaders of this country to make decisions that increase the integrity of our nation. Grant them the wisdom and insight needed to deal with this nations finances, that You may cause us to prosper and be a blessing to other nations.

May Your Word multiply in our nations capital so that our leaders may be better able to cooperate with Your plan and purpose.

Father, use this nation and its leaders in this great harvest of souls that will take place in the last days. I praise and thank You for blessing my country. I pray that our nation will accomplish the things that You want us to accomplish. I thank You that Jesus is Lord over the United States of America.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
