To Sara Palin: If you can’t stand the heat………
Let’s be fair, let’s be honest and let’s deal with the issues
Because that’s what most of the public would like to see this time.
So with all due respect I say to you Candidate Palin……..
If you can’t stand the heat, please step out of the kitchen.
After Charlie Gibson‘s 1st interview, Sara Palin’s handlers announced that she will not be doing any more interviews for a while because people were showing her disrespect.
This is outrageous beyond belief and I’m going to tell you exactly why.
First, it’s a campaign for President and any candidate, man or woman will be subject to questions.
Second, Charlie Gibson didn’t ask any unfair questions, he simply asked reasonable and important questions that would be asked of any other Candidate running for the position of Vice-President of the United States. I’m sixty years old and I can’t think of one other election in my entire life where either candidate, Republican or Democrat, for President or Vice-President was unwilling to grant many and various interviews to people in the News Media.
And that is for a good reason too…..…your running for the second most powerful position in the free world. Whoever is elected will potentially handle great power and many decisions of consequence.
You might even be called on with 20 minuets or less notice to take command of the most powerful military in the world.
A military that has a capability to not only defend, but also to dispense massive destruction and death on great numbers of people.
You would have the power at your fingertips, to even bring about the complete end of mankind’s existence on this earth within hours.
So it’s fair and oh so reasonable to expect that you would be willing to be interviewed by all kinds of media and also in many different situations so that the American People, and also the World Public, can have a chance to properly vet you and your responses.
This has been done already and is still in process with all other three candidates in the race.
In fact, it is sexist and an insult to strong women everywhere to ask to be excused from a process that all others are always asked to go through for the job. In fact, it actually could be thought of as a kind of insult to Hillary Clinton herself who was completely vetted in the media for many years before and also during the entire primary campaign…………and she didn’t cry once or ask her handlers to relieve her of her duty or ask her handlers to keep her behind them under their protection.
It is really an insult also and a potential disappointment to all the hardworking and utterly courageous women who paved the way before you.
That is why I say, and not out of any disrespect for the strength of women……If you personally can’t stand the heat……..then just please move on back out of the kitchen.
And again Charlie did not ask any unfair questions. It’s true that you may have made a serious misstep on your first interview and insinuated that you would quickly consider taking a position against Russia that could quickly lead to a ground war with their military. A potentially disastrous course.
But that is what the questions are for.
To see what your reactions are………to see what your experience, understandings and knowledge are, and to definitely begin to get a picture of what you would do under pressure.
If the sum total of your knowledge of Russia and worldwide International Affairs is having a view of a small Russian iceberg from an outpost Alaskan iceberg……we want to know.
If the largest budget you’ve been responsible for or exposed to is the $10. Billion budget for Alaska for just two years now and we know that the budget of the greater Los Angeles area alone, or greater Chicago area alone, or the greater New York area alone is larger than that, we deserve to know. And have the opportunity to assess the facts. Not the spin.
And in these pressing and important times to America, we deserve to know your overall understanding of economics and your economic theories in some detail. And if you make a lot of errors and mistakes explaining that, then so be it, and we want to know that now. That’s what the democratic campaign process is for by definition. I’m sure you know that.
If you and your handlers only schedule scripted interviews with sympathetic conservative interviewers who throw you only softballs, and don’t press anything……than that is showing a great disrespect for the voting American public and again for the many strong women who have walked before you and shown the world just how intelligent they are, and just how savvy and just how willing they were to step up to the plate.
Third and final point is this. From the very first minuet that you stepped out on the stage for your first speech at the convention, you were the one that started slinging accusations towards the other candidates. You also made what I felt were disrespectful slurs against their community work and against their very characters. Unfounded slurs. You made accusations that were not true without ever apologizing………and also made claims of your own that turned out to only be _ truths. You said some things that I personally felt were also mean spirited. I know because I am a minister. I know the difference between a good fight and slurs.
Then afterwards, you step behind the shield of the campaign who step forward and yell “foul” and “disrespect” and put out a huge orchestrated outcry against Barack Obama’s character because of the use of an old farmers saying about putting lipstick on a pig.
It seems like a big and very cynical attempted manipulation of the voting public by the Mc Cain / Palin spin doctors. And a page out of Bush / Cheney / Karl Rove. And they were elected by a very slim majority, but we are all living with the results.
Some girls on the kindergarden playground use your tactic of start trouble and then run to the teacher. Other girls don’t act that way.
The strong women that I know, love and respect, either don’t dish it out in the first place………or if they do dish it out…….then they can and will also take it. That’s what makes them strong. That’s also what shows their great integrity and character.
Which is why I said in the first place…..if you personally are not prepared for the heat, then please step back out of the kitchen.
And if you do have the qualities, talent, experience and temperament to fill the second most powerful job in the free world, then step forward without delay, quit slinging mud, take on the offered interviews, and tell us your clear positions on the important issues of the day.
Whoever has read this…….thank you for your time and consideration of the thoughts and issues.

Well said! I’m deeply afraid that she may one day become president, and I know nothing about her. The only interviews I’ve seen show her clumsily restated the party line in response to a question, without actually answering the question.
She needs to be vetted with the media, and with America. If she can’t take it, then someone else should.
I, and I’m sure many people, are going to be very eager to see how Palin does in the debate tonight. You have to wonder how she’s going to survive that if she can’t even handle a fairly soft interview.
I’ll tell you what: the idea that her ‘handlers’ (when did people start having handlers, by the way? I thought handlers were for untrained animals) would ‘protect’ her from interviews…. Are you kidding me??
If a person like this actually finds herself as president of the United States, there will be no handlers to protect her from anything! And not for a minute is this about her gender one way or the other… I think it says a lot about John McCain that he would put forth someone with so little background and background knowledge, and then not replace her when she’s shown so clearly that she can’t handle even questions that any well-informed grown-up should at least have an opinion on.
I’m sorry, I’ll get down from the soapbox now…..—T
I, et je suis sûr que beaucoup de gens vont être très impatient de voir comment ne Palin dans le débat de ce soir. Vous devez vous demander comment elle va survivre que si elle ne peut même pas gérer une interview assez mou
Thanks for adding the audio plugin.. listening to posts is so much better than reading them.
