How Racism Works

I received this thought provoking email forward from my friend Willae, enjoy :)

How Racism Works

What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review?

What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said ‘I do’ to?

What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife?

What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not only became addicted to painkillers, but acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?

What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama were a member of the ‘Keating 5′?

What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

I am a proud American, but racism is something that I’m ashamed of in our country. People should be treated for WHO they are; not for what color they are. Personally, I don’t care if our next President is purple, as long as he does a good job.

For everyone I know, race had nothing to do with this election.

We voted for McCain because he has experience and did not have the most liberal voting record of any presidential candidate in history

With each generation racism becomes less and less. One more generation and hopefully there will be no more racism.

I agree, with newer generations and racism as we know it is fading, although I think it will be a few more generations before you can say that it isn't a problem anymore.

It always seems that race is much more of an issue in the media than among people I actually speak to. Good thing for that.

There are some really good points here. If the roles were reversed…. Obama most likely wouldn't have even been in contention…. But because they werent, he won.

But how much of his victory was based on his race? A lot of people voted in this election that never voted before, and some of it was solely race related.

I never thought of it that way. Great contrast in this post!

  8. Daily Recipe says:

I know racism is still a factore but I agree with the fact that in each generation it seems to be getting better. As a "Red Man" I see this and hope that what I see is true.

  9. It seems racism has taken on a new face with all the racial sensitivity that is going on, giving minorities more opportunities in colleges to fill a race 'quota' to assure your school isnt called racist.. really? That's racist in itself

  10. With each generation racism becomes less and less. One more generation and hopefully there will be no more racism.

  11. Racial sensitivity was great word that was just brought up. We have to be careful with how this is as the years move on.
