by Jim John

Becoming a vegetarian may prove a great and healthy choice. At the start, a vegetarian diet can be hard to follow, but there can be a simple and easy process to get used to it until finally, you take control of your food choices and enjoy the healthiest diet you can find.

You will probably notice that when you decide to become a vegetarian, people around you who have never cared about your diet suddenly become extremely curious about what you eat. You may even want to avoid broadcasting the change for a little while until you get used to it yourself. When people will find out you are a vegetarian, they will either badmouth your new diet for being unhealthy or they will scrutinize every bite that goes into your mouth. The only real reason behind all this interest is the novelty of it. Most people run into very few vegetarians in their lifetimes and are naturally very curious when they do. You’ll find in time that it’s very ironic how people will often tell you how unhealthy your new diet is while consuming unhealthy processed junk food and see no hypocrisy in their words.

If you are trying to make to switch to vegetarianism, it might be a good idea to keep a supply of healthy vegetarian foods and snacks handy. It can be difficult when others in your household are still meat eaters to resist the temptations presented. You will do well if you keep nutritious vegetarian options available. Dieters follow the same key idea. If there are enough good healthy foods available you won’t make unhealthy choices.

Have a little fun while cooking vegetarian recipes. There are tons of vegetarian recipes out there, and getting creative will expand your diet beyond belief. It will also keep you from getting bored with your new diet. Vary your foods and keep cooking up new and tasty recipes and you will continue to enjoy your healthy new lifestyle.

Let your family enjoy and benefit from your new way of eating. They might even adopt a vegetarian eating plan if you present it in a delicious and enjoyable way. Vegetarianism isn’t about denial and suffering, it is about a healthy and enjoyable way of life. Remember that becoming a vegetarian is a very healthy choice. You have decided to embark on a road of improved health and a long life. You should not succumb to any negative discussions on the subject that some might give you.

If you know any other vegetarians you can talk to them about any problems you might be having. They can offer you some great advice because they have probably gone through the same things that you are experiencing. It also is good to have someone that you share an interest with to offer support and share ideas. They may also know some great foods that you havent explored yet.

Just stick to your convictions and don’t let anyone else persuade you to give up your dreams of a healthier lifestyle. Be well informed and don’t be afraid to share the reasons why you are choosing to become a vegetarian. Many people argue against vegetarianism because they are ignorant, and once they see that you know what you’re talking about they won’t bother you on the subject anymore.

What an inspirational post, Thank you!

  2. I remember when I became a vegetarian about 30 years ago I didn't know about soy products like tofu and tempeh so I ended up eating a lot of dairy products like cheese to get the protein I was used to. I would encourage new vegetarians to experiment with tofu (bean curd) and tempeh, they are delicious and high protein foods. If you have Indonesian or Malaysian Restaurants in your area check their menu, they often have the best tofu and tempeh dishes that you can try to see just how good they can taste. I've got some recipes for cooking both tofu and tempeh (and lots of other vegetarian recipes) on my website as well.

  3. I completely agree with you there in the first paragraph. I'm not a vegetarian but I do eat healthy and consume only what my body needs (which isn't much). Its hard to get past the snide remarks people around you make about your eating habits. So thank you for this post =D

  4. It is nice to share vegetarian recipes even if you are not vegetarian. At least you are eco and healthy .

  6. Good advice. I completely agree about not broadcasting it to everyone at first! It's one thing to gradually make the change at home with your family involved, but to have the peanut gallery making comments and passing judgment is just counter-productive. It's amazing what otherwise civilized people seem to think it's OK to stick their noses into.

After reading this article, I've made the commitment to myself that I will become vegetarian. I am 100% determined to do so now. I'm sick of meat and what it's doing to my mind, body, and soul. Wish me luck! And thanks for the inspiration!
