There are various types of sales job to save the unemployed. Each company, product, field and industry demands a different type of sales technique. However, the basic task of being in a sales position is to sell a product within the guidelines set by the company.

The individual doing all the sales work is called a sales agent. They are sometimes referred to as broker, business manager, sales manager, or transaction broker. Sales people are relied on to close deals in commercial trade or activity.

Working in a sales job can be very rewarding. Apart from their basic pay, many companies offer incentives or commission once the sales agent has achieved a certain quota. A commission is a financial reward for achieving a certain number of successful sales deals. Aside from financial reward, incentives could range from out travel to cars to real estate.

There are many ways to close out a sale. Each company teach a different sales techniques from one another, while independent sales agents use a method that they are most comfortable with. Some of the popular ways of selling a product is going door-to-door, telemarketing and bidding.

The first technique is very common, but very difficult and time consuming as well. It requires the agent to knock on each home and persuade each homeowner to buy a product.

Telemarketing or telesales involves the use of telephones to contact prospective customers. The telemarketer introduces the product or service to the customer over the phone. Telemarketing commonly makes use of a sales speech or a sales spiel, which includes a scripted line from a product presentation.

The final technique is a request for proposal or bidding. Here, a company that wants a project done invites other companies to bid for its offer. In this auction, the lowest bidder wins.

  1. I much prefer telesales to the knocking on doors approach – it's said that it's not as effective, but I find it is, and it's a lot easier to handle customers who are not interested!.

  2. Telemarketing is a hard job, full of rejections and people who not only do not want to know but actually think you are offensive for calling. That said the most successful telemarketers are rewarded heavily and are worth their weight in gold in any company!
