Yes agreed, all very good advice. I have interview 100's of applicants for a range of jobs in my time. For technical jobs I always either have two interviews or at least a two part interview. Firstly get someone to assess the technical ability, by test in that is appropriate. The second part of the interview can then focus on the other attributes that the candidate needs and other more personal assessments. I think this makes it easier for interviewer and for the candidate who can concentrate on the the important parts of each interview section. My main tip for candidates is to prepare a few achievements from real life, either work or personal. Practice explaining these beforehand. Often an achievement can be used as an example in a number of different answers so makes you a little more prepared for any surprises.

Your post is great. At a senior position I have interviewed many people for technical jobs and there are many candidates who have been rejected because of lack of confidence, no clear objective, poor communication skills. Job interviews are not only related to knowledge, there are many other factors associated with it.
