You know I love to share those interesting email forwards…here’s one with much food for thought enjoy. FWD:
THIS IS NOT THE ‘DON’T BUY’ GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW
WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.30 PER GALLON.
This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his
engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the
gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take
time to read this please.
Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the “don’t buy gas on a certain day”
campaign that was going around last April or May!
It’s worth your consider ation. Join the resistance!!!!
I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer, and
it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down?
We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just
laughed at that because they knew we wouldn’t continue to “hurt”
ourselves by refusing to buy gas.
It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea has come up with a plan that can
really work. Please read on and join with us!
By now you’re probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is super
cheap. Me too! It is currently $3.19 for regular unleaded in my town.
Now that the oil companies and th e OPEC nations have conditioned us to
think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 – $1.75, we
need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the
marketplace..not sellers.
With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to
take action.
The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit
someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do
that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can’t just stop buying gas.
But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force
a price war.
Here’s the idea: For the rest of this year, DON’T purchase ANY gasoline
from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.
If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their
prices.
If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow
suit.
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxo n and
Mobil gas buyers. It’s really simple to do! Now, don’t wimp out on me
at this point…keep reading and I’ll explain how simple it is to reach
millions of people!!
I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least
ten more (30 x 10 = 300) … and those 300 send it to at least ten more
(300 x10 = 3,000)…and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth
group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers.
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each,
then 30 million people will have been contacted!
If it goes one level further, you guessed it….. THREE HUNDRED MILLION
PEOPLE!!!
Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That’s all!
(If you don’t understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have
to do is send this to 10 people…. Well, let’s face it, you just
aren’t a mathematician. But I am . so trust me on this one.
How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to
ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could
conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days !!!
I’ll bet you didn’t think you and I had that much potential, did you!
Acting together we can make a difference.
If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that
we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $2.00
RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.
Keep it going

Ok this plan sounds great but it seems like it would still be really hard to get people to just stop. i think people don’t care, and will just go on with their everyday lives for that reason.
That’s nice idea! But I think not all people will agree to this. The government should think for the best solution to stop or to lower the oil prices. It’s sad to see that the oil prices keep on increasing.
How about we all buy bicycles and stop using cars?
Hmmm, well then how we will travel to other cities? Well, thats a problem.
I wonder what can be the solution for this problem, except for building cars that run on water
The sooner people get it into their heads that their car is a luxury item, and not an essential good, the better.
Run a cheap car, and pay of the mortgage X years early.
Brilliant! Thanks for this post. I don’t think I have ever bought gas at an Exxon or a Mobil station in my life. I will, however, forward this along anyway.
That’s a great idea, b/c I hate paying so much for gas….but how are you going to get everyone in the united states to go along with it??
The idea sounds good…. BUT…
First, do we agree that supply and demand is the problem? When supply goes down prices go up and when supply goes up prices come down. Here is an excerpt from snope2.com ….
“A boycott of a couple of brands of gasoline won’t result in lower overall prices. Prices at all the non-boycotted outlets would rise due to the temporarily limited supply and increased demand, making the original prices look cheap by comparison. The shunned outlets could then make a killing by offering gasoline at its “normal” (i.e., pre-boycott) price or by selling off their output to the non-boycotted companies, who need the extra supply to meet the demand.”
So you see boycott is not the answer. We need to find an American alternative and eliminate oil altogether. Have you seen the video on youtube that I posted http://youtube.com/watch?v=VCcNJe5DcvY
Some oil company probably bought his idea and trashed it…
there is no way this will work. people are just too lazy by nature
This is ridiculous. Your freakin email spam blog got mirrored on REUTERS.

STOP.THIS.CRAP
I agree that this is a good idea if it works, but the gas prices are not just due to the big bad oil companies. Look to your politicians for an additional root of the price jacking.
great blog, very interesting information.
people are just too lazy
1.30 per gallon? That would be a dream, but I’m not counting on it.
1.30 a gallon.
We pay three times that much in the UK.
Only time we had any action on it was when the tanker drivers went on strike.Every body supported them but it eventually petered out.
Have tried to do it again but there is not the fight for it now.
LOL… is that really possible u think??? I am little bit confused.
The idea is perfect and doing the simple job of just sending it to 10 people is OK, everything is fine. What makes you think that just because gas not being purchased from two of the biggest players will bring the prices down. The companies will surely have something up their sleeve. Then what do you do next? Otherwise I entirely agree with you.
as good of an idea that is, i just dont think it will happen… most people wont be informed about this and will forget and will continue to buy gas where they always do. i hope it works out and all, but we shall se… :/

I think the real solution can be found in supply and demand laws. The demand is NOT going down anytime soon, so let's just produce (and refine) more ourselves.
@plumbing supplies – I have to agree. I know that I am a very price sensitive consumer (code words for being cheap) and even I find myself buying gas at the same places – because I'm used to it.
man… am i really gonna have to invest in a bike?! i sure hope not…
~mikey
true that fuel costs a bomb lately…we should figure out alternatives by now…
I think taking public transportation would be a better alternative to this plan.
Anyone who thinks that is idea will work understands absolutely nothing about basic economic principles or how gasoline is distributed and sold in this country. Go to this link, http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/gasout.asp, read the information, and realize how stupid you are. Have a good day and, for the love of God, please don’t reproduce!
If people who are able to work from home would start doing so, even if just for two days each month, consumption would drop as people wouldn’t be commuting. When demand exceeds supply, prices will rise. When demand falls, prices fall.
I am too little to make OPEC or a gas company change thier cheating ways. I found a web site called http://www.cheapgasonlinenow.com that gives me rebates of 50% of the retail price. This week my gas cost me $1.64/gal. I figure that works for me.
The price of gas is so high i think i’ma start farting in a jar and replacing my gas tank with it. Maybe just siphon peoples gas in the middle of the night with a black t-shirt on and black gloves. jk but it really pisses me off.
Gas prices really effect the small business owner. Dan’s post about cheapgasonline.com looks tempting.
That would be really great. Nice article. Thanks
still gas cheaper in the US than in Europe!
Interesting article. But gas still cheaper now.
We, the United States residents should not complain on gas prices, because in London, the gas price was around $10 per gallon 2 months ago. And people all over the Europe drive those ugly small cars, which are as big as a refrigerator and they don`t complain. In the US people are used to driving muscle cars and huge suvs and everyone is complaining including me
N ice post !
I am not sure if this would ever work.
At the moment petrol is AUD$1.10 per Litre (around $4.50 Gallon) but it was recently $1.60 litre (more than $6 gallon) !!! even you high price is cheap for us.

Gas has now dropped to $1.76 in new york city. Almost there!
Well gas dropped down, and now it is around $2.06 as if today 4/24 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Hopefully it stays around $2 or less!
Thanks for the brilliant post.
