“Lack of health insurance causes roughly 18,000 unnecessary deaths every year in the United States. Although America leads the world in spending on health care, it is the only wealthy, industrialized nation that does not ensure that all citizens have coverage.” —Institute of Medicine
I find it absolutely mind-boggling that America spends the most money on health care yet ranks #37 out of 191 countries. How does a country spend more money than any other country on health care but its citizens have a lower life expectancy than countries that spend less? Where is all the money going?
Instead of Americans being healthier we are seeing increases in:
How is it that citizens in countries with free health care systems (France, Canada, and UK) have longer life expectancy rates than Americans? I told my husband last week we should consider moving to France. He looked at me like I was crazy. But France has the best health care in the world and its free!
I know a middle class family of 5 (husband, wife, & 3 kids) paying $900/month for health insurance! Hello…. $900 for health insurance is alot when you also have to pay mortgage, utilities, car insurance, put gas in the car, food on the table, clothes on backs, plus other living expenses and incidentals! This is why so many Americans do not have health care insurance. Barack Obama is right, “people want health care but can’t afford it.” Hillary Clinton is right, “everybody has got to be covered.” John McCain is right, “we need to reduce health care costs.”
We Americans are often quick to turn our noses up at at other countries. We often think we are better and have all of the answers. Perhaps its part of our conditioning or mis-education. We are spoon fed lies that we actually believe about the evils of free health care for every American. Our American wisdom tells us that free health care for all Americans is too much like socialism and socialized health care is the enemy… If so called socialized programs are destructive then how do we explain our current systems for police, fireman, schools, and libraries?
With our infinite wisdom, wealth, and resources our health care system is ranked #37!
As our people grow sicker and deeper in debt with medical bills or die from inadequate medical care; health insurance and health service providers like Humana are literally raking in Six BILLION Dollars! What is wrong with this picture?

I received a letter (or death threat) from Kaiser Permanente last week inviting me and my husband to sign up for a health care plan. At the bottom of the letter it says “We want you to feel healthier and stronger 24/7.” Considering how Kaiser damn near killed my sister and succeeded in killing at least 3 family members and friends…I’d rather take my chances with good old fashion prayer, herbal remedies, exercise, and apple cider vinegar cures than to step foot into a Kaiser! In my neck of the woods (Compton) Martin Luther King Hospital was also know as KILLER King…but the biggest baddest killer in California might actually be KILLER KAISER!Study Finds For-Profit Health Plans Deliver Lower Quality Care Than Not-For-Profit Health Plans —Harvard
“I think there are two ways in which people are controlled,” Benn said. “First of all, frighten people, and secondly demoralize them. An educated, healthy and confident nation is harder to govern. I think there’s an element in the thinking of some people, we don’t want people to be educated, healthy and confident because they would get out of control.” —Tony Benn
Is there a way for all Americans to receive quality health care? If you are one of the 50 million Americans without health care would you be interested in a health plan with the following benefits:
Have you ever heard of House Resolution (H.R.) 676 The Unites States National Health Insurance Act? I realize that America has slipped tremendously in not just health care but also in education…My fellow Americans it’s time to do some homework! We need to educate ourselves and make informed decisions starting right now!

Good health care something that we all need at one time or another but rising medical costs make finding a good health insurance plan difficult because it can be very expensive.
I agree with everything you said. Something needs to be done. But, to do it, Americans are gonna pay for it. We have gotten used to paying in a certain amount for taxes. To solve this problem, people are gonna have to be willing to pay for it. Are we ready to let Uncle Sam take 50% of our earnings to get a comparable system to Canada??
Very interesting post. Health care costs is a scary issue for many people. It is so important, yet many people can not afford it. This post really does make you think about where all this money that is supposedly being spent on health care is going.
The bottom line is that it is extremely important to be covered. Insurance goes hand in hand with living free of excess-risk!
Insurance reform is one of the most important issues today
"How is it that citizens in countries with free health care systems (France, Canada, and UK) have longer life expectancy rates than Americans?"
Between free health care systems and longer life expectancy there is no direct dependence. Life expectancy is influenced by many factors: genetics (heredity), a food, physical exercises etc.
And in the rest with article it agree. The good medical insurance is a problem for many Americans.
My family of 3 pays over $800/month. It's insane. We are all uber-healthy, eat right, exercise…just picture perfect. It bugs me that most of my health care premiums are going to treat other people that are lazy enough to not care for their bodies.
Turning the healthcare system around in this country was be insane-ly difficult. There are too many hands in the pot to pay (i.e. special interests).
One major thing that needs to happen in the way American's view their lifestyle. We are a country of overworked, lazy individuals that are numbed down by the television we watch. If we changed our lifestyle and what we value, I guarantee that our visits to the Dr. would decrease, as well as our depression, diabetes, cancer, etc.
Americans LOVE to complicate what should be simple: the key to a fulfilling and healthy life is great fresh food, wonderful company and satisfying, productive work. Why can't we get that equation down?
In the present world lot of disease and medical complications can be decimated. We can’t say that I am a perfectly healthy person, because exactly in 1minute 78 seconds approximately 107 peoples are dying in the world, so it is our duty to cover ourselves & our family health insurance, it is an ultimate stride to choose and it has lot of portfolios to make our premium a useful one. Myself & my family covered by A.I.C health insurance. Hurry! Guard your life with ’A.I.C Health insurance’ & live tension free….
Whenever I read stories about healthcare and insurance in the U.S., I always feel so fortunate to live in Canada. Our system may have many flaws, and may be wasteful and expensive for taxpayers, but when I need care or when my kids need care, they get treated and I don't have to worry about if I can afford it or not.
Maybe it seems a little navie, but i'm one of them and i'm proud. It's so not that we don't want insurance. I'm just asking where is humanity when it comes about what cover the insurance…. ? Thay check the risk of death, and then wanna insure you… lack of words
I have had this question running around in my bain for so long. If free health car is offered then where is the money for the risk going to come in? Who is going to pay for it? Raised tax dollars. If there are raised tax dollars, people will be pissed.
