Doing what you love and loving what you do is a job match made in heaven.
Unfortunately, there are too many people working unfulfilling jobs that they hate
Spending 8+ hours every day doing something you hate is physically and mentally taxing…it pays the bills while sucking the life right out of you!
Your time is too precious to spend it unhappy. You owe it to yourself to find a job that meets your every need. If you can’t find one create one!
Here are 10 Tips for finding the job that is right for you:
- What can you do and what do you enjoy doing? Assess your skills, strengths, and weaknesses. Pull out the pen and paper and make a list of your marketable in demand skills.
- What do you really want to do? What is your plan of action? Upon honestly assessing your skills, decide on a career path and set goals. (When you create your plan of action and goals be sure to include personal development and additional training to enhance and/or expand your knowledge, skills, and level of expertise in your field of interest.)
- Update and/or create an effective resume.
- Seek and You Shall Find. Make a list of companies you want to work for, check out the 2007 list of Best Companies to Work For, take a look at your LinkedIn network for possible employment opportunities, hit the job fair circuit, start applying for jobs, making calls, and sending out resumes.
- Do your research. Due diligence pays off. Figure out which companies need you and your marketable skills. Newspapers, magazines, and trade publications, always feature company profiles. When you find a company that sparks your interest call the company and request corporate literature and an annual report. Just as they will do a thorough background check on you…You should do one on them (its called making an informed decision). This will help you determine the company’s stability, philosophy, and direction. It will also prepare you for an interview.
- Contact names are critical when sending resumes. If and when possible, get the name of the appropriate management level person and send your resume to their attention.
- A good resume is a dime a dozen, go the extra mile. Send relevant samples of your work, inquire about freelance or part time opportunities (get your foot in the door), considering volunteering or working on spec to demonstrate your abilities and establish a working relationship.
- Remember team work makes the dream work! Networking can be essential to finding the right job. Talk to your friends, family, business associates, and professors for leads.
- Take visualization to another level. Visit the place you want to work. take note of the work environment and morale. Can you see yourself happily working there?
- Every experience is a learning experience. The more you interview, network, and research jobs the more you’ll learn about yourself and what job is right for you.
Go for it, never give up, that good job is out there and it’s perfect for you. Go Get It!
