Having the Right Tools

Funny how we take little things for granted. When I wake up in the morning the bathroom is the first trip I make. There is never any concern about washing my face, brushing my teeth, hopping in the shower, or flushing my toliet! My routine was disrupted…but I had a moment of serendipty watching the toliet overflow.

I’ll save you the disgusting details…long story short the home that I live in is pretty old (thankful to have a roof over my head I’m not complaining just stating facts), the pipes are probably just as old as the house…so every now and then we might experience a random plumbing issue (thankful to have pipes and running water).

plungerBeing the do-it-yourself independent I can do it I got this chick that I am…I did some research. Who knew that there was a science to plunging a toliet?

line the rim of the suction cup with petroleum jelly to ensure a tight seal.’

‘use a firm and steady up-and-down motion to pump the plunger 10-15 times in rapid succession.’

These instructions seemed easy enough, I tried it to know avail…I figured my woman’s touch was too soft, my husband put in the manly elbow grease that I thought was needed that didn’t work either…Between the two of us and our two plungers (yes we have two plungers one is supposedly ‘heavy duty’), we were unable to resolve the problem…not because we were incapable or unwillingly, we just didn’t have the right tools for the job!

In case you missed it, the bottom line is: to get a job done you need the right tools! Living life abundantly involves having the right tools to accomplish your goals. You must be willing to assess your toolbox to sharpen, replace, and/or acquire new tools… (not just literal tools but skills, talents, expertise etc…etc..)

Sometimes you will need someone else to use their tools to help you get things done.

“…I have seen that in any great undertaking it is not enough for a man to depend simply upon himself.” —Lone Man Teton Sioux

“Help your brother’s boat across and your own will reach the shore.” —Proverb-Hindu

“The race of mankind would perish did they cease to aid each other. We cannot exist without mutual help. All therefore that need aid have a right to ask it from their fellow-men; and no one who has the power of granting can refuse it without guilt.” —Walter Scott

Anyhoo a plumber should be arriving with the right tools any minute now lol :)
