The annual report listing America’s Safest and Most Dangerous Cities is out. Once again my city made the list (the most dangerous list that is) but I’m thankful Compton dropped ten notches from last years ranking. With all of the revitalization efforts in my city…I’m sure we’ll continue to drop on the most dangerous list.
On a side note:
It would help if west coast rappers would stop perpetuating and glamorizing gang life. I am tired of hearing rappers mention my city and surrounding cities in their songs to maintain their street cred. You rappers claim Compton, Long Beach, Watts, and South Central…but where do you live now? Where do your tax dollars go? What have you done for the CPT or LBC lately? When you’re done gang banging in the recording studio and crip walking on stage amidst body guards and cameras YOU go home to one of the safest cities in America (Chino Hills, Irvine etc)…. Meanwhile kids in my city buy into your lifestyle marketing and gang bang hoopla and actually die in these dangerous streets trying to be a G. Enough is Enough. Man Up! Ok I’m done venting
Did your city make either list?

I lived in Detroit for 3 years. Since have moved to Washington but living there was not that bad. In fact i quite enjoyed it and felt safe all the time.
heh. Nice. Keep up the good blogging.
Where is New Orleans on that list? You can’t walk through the place without getting shanked. Once you leave the French Quarter and Garden District, the place turns to hell.
This is interesting – there are some cities listed that I did not even know were dangerous enough to be on the most dangerous list … well, my city is not on either list, so I guess I can not complain!
Well, I didn’t see Bakersfield on either list, so I guess that’s good news. I’ve visited some of the so-called ‘dangerous’ cities . . . Oakland, Philly, and Baltimore to name a few . . . and I felt perfectly safe the entire time.
Is Cincinnati really that bad? I’ve lived here for over 6 months now, and haven’t felt in danger at any point. Sure, there are rough neighborhoods, but so does every major city.
Any city that decides to put chili in spaghetti can’t be all bad.
Its kinda crazy to think some of those places are bad.. who knew! but i guess everywhere has crime that u just don't see..
I live in Orem, Ut. Good to see that we are on the safest list. Sure is nice to be insulated to some degree from as much bad as I can. It certainly is not void of gang activity, murder, etc, but it is not prevalent here like is in other places.
Funny… Buffalo is on the most dangerous list and Amherst which borders Buffalo as its "white" suburb is on the safest list. Can we really deny that we don't live in a class system in America?
I live in New York City and I keep trying to tell people that Uptown Manhattan is one of the safest places in the US. The meth phenomenon has made many smaller towns more dangerous than the larger ones. People in large metropolitan cities are usually too busy working to become involved in violent crimes.
Good list but there is alot of cities in new england that nobody talks about like Providence, Pawtucket, Woonsocket, Central Falls, Lowell, Brockton, Hartford, East Hartford, Waterbury, Springfield, Fallriver,
Taunton, New Bedford, Cranston all of these cities are to small that’s why nobody talks about them but there are streets in these cities were nobody goes on because you’ll get shot I have lived in three of these cities because I moved from city to city in this region when I was a kid I respect your blog
im so glad that troy made the safest list.
