Interesting Email Forward of the Day

Subject: FW: “Walmart Milk!!”

WOW!! I LOOKED THIS UP ON SNOPES AND ITS “PRETTY MUCH” TRUE.
THE GOVERNMENT PROBABLY JUST WANTS YOU TO NOT BE AWARE . PERSONALLY….I WON’T BUY ANYMORE.

WAL-MART MILK: Just in case any of you shop at Wal-Mart like me, you Might want to reconsider buying their Milk after reading this… Please read This and pass along to as many people as you can think of. Mitzi Lyons and Her husband Kyle live in Gainesville, TX.

Their daughter, Marissa, has been experiencing menstrual problems (bleeding every day) for three years and within the last year; she started Producing milk (lactating). They have performed every test, every surgery, put her on birth control and in January were scheduled to undergo a hysterectomy.

NEVERTHELESS,
Mitzi’s dad started researching his granddaughter’s condition on the internet found out about RBST in milk. RBST is a hormone injected into cows to produce more milk. Wal-Mart Great Value milk contains RBST and is the brand that the Lyons family has used for years. Three months ago, they pulled Marissa off Great Value Milk and she quit bleeding and lactating.
Her doctors in Houston are going to write a medical journal discovery about Her case, because the FDA says that RBST is safe. Mitzi asked me to please Share this with everyone I could think of to I hope that save someone the pain and suffering that Marissa has endured. I have pulled my family from Wal-Mart Great Value milk and bought Borden instead. Borden has a label on their milk that states that RBST is not used on their cows.

Please pass this on……

Bovine somatotropin (bST), or bovine growth hormone (BGH), is a specific type of growth hormone that is primarily released by the anterior pituitary gland of cattle. In addition to regulating somatic growth, BGH also influences the amount of milk produced by a dairy cow. Recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH), also known as rBST is a synthetic version of BGH that is injected into a cow to artificially maintain her milk production. — wikipedia

***Apparently this forward has been making its way around since March 2007 some say its just an attack on Walmart. Some say that Walmart sells both RBST and RBST Free milk….. I don’t think it matters if its Walmart or not, the point of the matter is do hormones in milk or other food products have negative affects on people. Does the FDA look the other way as harmful additives, preservatives, hormones, etc… are used by various industries? Do You Know what’s in your milk? Do you know what’s in your food? Do you trust the FDA? Do you say grace before you eat or drink? Hmmmmm email forwards give us so much to consider lol.

If the person that claims to have looked this up on Snopes, actually used snopes they would have seen it wasn’t “Pretty much” true.

Some milk vended by Wal-Mart (and other retailers) comes from rBST-treated cows: True

Milk produced by rBST-treated cows has been proved dangerous for ordinary humans: False

    http://www.snopes.com/medical/potables/walmart.asp

    Summary of the eRumor:
The story of an 11-year-old girl who has had menstrual bleeding since she was 8 and has also started lactating. The eRumor says it is because she’s been drinking milk injected with rBST, a hormone given to cows to increase their milk production. The eRumor focuses on Wal-Mart Great Value milk as a source of the rBST and recommends against feeding it to your family.

    The Truth:
There is controversy over rBST, which stands for recombinant bovine somatotropin. It is an artificial growth hormone used in cows.

We’ve not found the family of Marissa, the 11-year old girl referenced in the eRumor. If she is real her family’s suspicions are worthy of consideration but do not constitute proof that what they describe has been caused by ingesting milk from Wal-Mart. There are other conditions that can cause early menstruation such as hypothyroidism. Also, although there are fears there is not scientific agreement about whether rBST is harmful to humans.

RBST is a synthetic version of bST or BGH, a natural growth hormone in cows which, among other things, affects the amount of milk produced by a dairy cow. Use of bST to increase milk production has been around since the 1930′s then along then the synthetic version came into popularity.

Critics of the use of rBST say that it is banned for use in cattle in virtually every major country in the world except the United States. They point out that there is an increase in health problems in cattle that produce the most milk so the use of rBST should be avoided on that ground.
Supporters say rBST helps dairy farmers with better milk yield and that there has not been any proof that the hormone causes problems in humans. It is approved for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Although this eRumor focused on Wal-Mart milk there are several different milk companies that use cattle treated with rBST and Wal-Mart also sells milk from cows that are not injected with it. Because of the controversy over rBST a lot of the milk products without it are labeled as such and are not hard to find.

Alaina perhaps the hormone has not been proven to be dangerous to humans I don’t know…What I do find interesting is how there are various hormones in food period that do cause harm to humans…I find it disturbing that milk in general has been linked to causing vascular disease and other little known medical discoveries and facts. Several doctors have written books regarding milk. There was a time when we were told that margarine was better than butter and that NutraSweet was safe….with this in mind for me its not a stretch that rBST could be problematic.

  3. Mitzi Lyons says:

My daughter and our family is the family that is referenced above. Yes, we do exist and yes this whole experience has been extremely difficult for our family. I love how so many people have said we aren’t real. If you have any questions, please email me. I will be glad to respond.

I HOPE THIS IS WHAT YOUR DAUGHTERS PROBLEM IS AND THAT IS SOMETHING THEY CAN CORRECT. BUT I ALSO HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND WAS LACTATING AND FOUND TO HAVE A PITUTITARY TUMOR. I DON’T DRINK MILK EITHER. SO I KNOW THAT WAS NOT MY CASE. I WAS SIXTEEN WHEN IT WAS LOCATED AND NOW 37 AND SO MANY OTHER PROBLEMS DUE TO THE TUMOR. HOPE YOUR DAUGHTERS IS NOT SOMETHING MORE SERIOUS THAT IS BEING OVERLOOKED. BEST WISHES.

  6. Camille Peres says:

This is such an interesting story. I tell my students all the time that correlation does not prove causation, so just because two things happen together doesn’t necessarily mean that one causes the other. They could be coincidental or both caused by a different variable. For instance, # of churches and # of crimes are correlated in cities. But they don’t cause each other, they’re both related to the population size. The more people, the more churches and the more crime.

At the same time, if one does cause the other, then the two will always occur together.

Can’t say that I’m ever SUPER confident in the FDA–whole thing has become completely too politicized to have much confidence in.

Best wishes for all who have struggled with this problem. Note – I will be making sure my daughter has milk without this hormone from here on out… just to be cautious.

  7. Laurie DeGroote says:

Wal-mart is not the only store selling milk with growth hormones. In fact, UNLESS your gallon of milk states that it DOES NOT contain rBST, it most likely does. VERY FEW stores carry milk that does not contain this growth hormone, WAKE UP PEOPLE!

  8. I’m glad I don’t drink milk

  9. The food industry does put all kinds of food additives and preservatives in our food. We also consume all kinds of hormones as a result of the meat we eat and milk we drink, I read one report that said that these growth hormones can have an anabolic effect on those who consume them. Which may not sound that bad, but don’t growth hormones cause side effect like aggression? If given the choice I always go for the milk without hormones.

Marissa Lyons is a student in my honors Spanish III class. I have known her family for years. This account of her problem is TRUE, people. Marissa is a great kid. Her parents are good, hardworking, honest folks who happened to have a child with a serious problem. Think of being in junior high and having to deal with constant periods, pain, embarrassment….think of having milk production at that age. Anyone who claims they know different from this story is WRONG. This child receives unwanted attention and criticism from idiots who don't know her, her family, or her story. Let her grow up and become a confident adult. Leave the Lyons alone.
I found out today that Wal Mart no longer uses the hormone laden milk. Good for them for waking up.

i am Marissa Lyons. and this did happen to me. however let me get somethings straight, i started when i was 12 and at this time, as through my whole child hood, i had been a rapid milk drinker(5-6 glasses a day). when i started i had a period for 16 days and then when i stopped i didnt have another one until 6 months later, this cycle happed again 2 more times. they put me on the birth control patchm which worked until it fell off one day and by the time i noticed that night, and put another one one, i had already began to bleed and i didnt stop. they would try me on numerous kinds of birth control pills, starting me off at one a day of the lowest dosage, all the way up to 3 a day of the highest dosage, but they would work for 2 weeks, and then i would start to bleed again.

  12. marissa lyons says:

they tried me on depo provera shots and all sorts of pills. i had surgeries, mostly DNCs and all they would find is numerous pollups. trust me, it sucked. however i think there is a glitch in the story…i dont remember ever "lactating" haha, that must have been added for dramatic effect. throughout this 3 year time i got my blood checked about every two weeks, something was very strange everytime. the hormone that should have been making me have a period was non existant in my blood..but there was a hormone in my blood that was weird and they had no idea where it was coming from. as you can imagine, after bleeding for this long i was severely anemic and was on the verge of needing a blood transfusion. and yes we were considering histerectomy..or however you spell it.

  13. marissa lyons says:

i had been to countless doctors who would treat me for a while but then would soon just give up on me and send me to a new one. but my mom found something about the milk thing and in a desperate effort to help me, she took me off walmart milk and switched me to borden. within two weeks i stopped bleeding. i had my blood levels checked and that mysterious hormone was gone, and the one that was supposed to be there had finally taken its place. i believe the milk had a GIGANTIC part in my whole sickness. but God helped me through it. I wouldnt have made it without him and my family. i just write this to let everyone know out there the true story. thanks for your prayers!

I like how they deny anything is wrong because it hasn't been "PROVEN". There is such a thing as preponderance of evidence. Do we keep poisoning our kids until we are absolutely, positively certain that it's bad for them.
