As much as I appreciate the simple things in life and saving money where I can I still enjoy buying things for myself and for my home and there are things you really can't make or build yourself. My fireplace mantels for example, I just replaced the ones in my living room and master bedroom with a beautiful set. Certain things are just meant to be purchased. Do it yourself projects are fun but they have certainly become less common. Many modern day mums that i know of, can't even cook a proper meal for their family. Also, its true that we are trained nowadays as consumers. My grandma used to knit sweaters for my mum. But when it comes down the generations, we don't see this happening often in our modern culture. I know motor mechanic and I'm amazed at how often a mechie will try to rip someone off even for simple jobs! Bringing them back to schools sure will help. I know what you mean.
